Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. November 2022

  • A veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness & Employment Program (Chapter 31), worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development, employment leads, mock interviews and career guidance. The veteran was hired as an Order Support Specialist with a starting pay of $24.27 an hour, with full benefits.
  • An at risk for homelessness veteran, worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer as Patrol Officer with engineering college, with a starting pay of $44,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, comprehensive assessment and individual employment with job referrals. The veteran is hired as a Material Handler earning $42,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness & Employment Program (Chapter 31), worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, partner referrals and job search assistance. The veteran was hired as a Director of Social Services, with a starting pay of $60,000.00 per year.
  • A Vietnam era and service-connected disabled veteran, worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, partner referrals, and mock interviews. The veteran was able to be hired part-time to supplement their Social Security, as a Manufacturing worker with a starting pay of $8.75 an hour, 3 days a week.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development, federal application assistance, and career guidance. The veteran was hired into the federal sector with a starting pay of $26.45 an hour.
  • A veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness & Employment Program (Chapter 31), worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, job leads, and job referrals. The veteran was hired as a Customer Service Rep, with a starting pay of $17.90 per hour, with fully remote capabilities.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran, worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, partner referrals, mock interview assistance, and direct job leads. The veteran was hired as a aftermarket electronics technician, with a starting pay of $38.00 per hour.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness, worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided partner referrals, resume development, and job leads. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a full-time job offer as an Order Picker/Packer Specialist with federal defense warehouse, with a starting salary of $37,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran received Individualized Career Services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that included housing and partner referrals, resume development, and job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Project Specialist with a security service, with a starting pay of $31,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided employment guidance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that included mock interviews, resume development, and travel assistance. The veteran was hired as an Operation Supervisor with a starting salary of $70,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness & Employment Program (Chapter 31) received employment guidance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided the veteran resume development and veteran preference referrals for federal jobs. The veteran was hired with a federal employer, as a Veteran Service Representative (GS-9) with a starting pay of $46,712.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received individualized career services from Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that included resume development and direct job referrals. These services afforded the veteran to secure a position as a Talent Acquisition Specialist, with a salary of $50,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless received housing and partner referrals, resume assistance, and job leads from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was hired as a Transformer Assembler with a starting pay of $19.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received resume development, education benefits for training, and job leads from a Disabled Outreach Program Specialist who was subsequently hired as a Welder upon the completion of their training program with a starting wage of $31.28 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment services who provided resume development, job leads, and interviewing assistance. Using the services provided, the veteran was hired as a Wastewater Technician, with a starting pay of $21.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received resume development, referral to partner services, and training opportunities that led to new employment as a Remote Data Entry Specialist with a starting wage of $17.50 per hour.
  • The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with a comprehensive assessment, an Individual Employment Plan, job referrals, resume development, and partner referrals. The veteran used these services to secure a Diesel Mechanic position with a starting salary of $42,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was guided through the employment search and secruing housing process by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process, along with housing and partner resources. The veteran accepted a fulltime job offer as Lead Worker with a local food company, with a starting pay of $25.00 hourly.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with resume development, mock interviewing, and job leads through the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran used the assistance from staff to gain employment as a remote IT Technician with a starting pay of $89,500.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided resume development, interviewing techniques, and direct job leads. The veteran interviewed and was hired as a Clinical Social Worker, with a starting wage of $28.76 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided resume development, referral to partner resources, and job leads that led to the veteran secruing employmentas a Cash Application Processor with a starting wage of $21.00 per hour.
  • The spouse of a 100% service-connected disabled veteran received a variety of employment services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services to assist with finding employment. The spouse received resume development and several job leads that led to gaining employment as a Payroll Clerk, with a starting pay of $20.00 per hour
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process, as well as housing referrals and resources. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer with benefits as a Forklift Driver, earning $39,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided employment assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume development, interview techniques, and a direct opportunity job referral. The veteran accepted a position as a Shipping and Receiving Associate with a starting wage of $18.00 hourly.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness and a HVRP referral was guided by the staff in the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided a comprehensive assessment, resume assistance, and employment search assistance. The veteran was hired into a full-time role as a Countertop Assembler, with a starting wage of $17.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was guided through a detailed employment plan from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was provided resume assistance, partner referrals, and job leads and was subsequently hired as a full-time Valet Driver with a starting wage of $14.00 per hour plus tips.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided resume revisions and job searching assistance from the staff of the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was hired into an administrative role with a federal contractor with a starting wage of $23.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services where they were provided referral resources for housing, resume development, and interviewing assistance. These services allowed the veteran to find employment as a Delivery Driver with a starting wage of $25.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was led through the employment search process with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff, providing resume development, job leads, and interviewing assistance. The veteran was hired as a Bus Driver with a starting wage of $22.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services that provided resume assistance, job leads, and employment coaching. The veteran was hired into a desired part-time role with a retail store as a Stocker earning $16.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was led to employment by the Office of Veteran Employment Services that provided resume assistance, job leads, and direct employer referrals. The veteran was hired as a Sales Associate, with a starting wage of $18.00 per hour.
  • A Transitioning Service Member received employment assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. This veteran worked with their Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist to update their resume and employment search assistance. The veteran obtained a position as a Program Manager, with a salary of $70,000 per year.
  • A Transitioning Service Member received employment guidance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided resume assistance, employment goal planning, and job leads. These services led to the veteran gaining employment in the Human Resources field with a salary of $48,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was guided through case management that helped the veteran with career guidance, resume development, and job leads. This allowed the veteran to apply and accept a position as a Tubing and Pipe Fitting Specialist earning $50,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who received resume development, mock interviewing assistance, and direct job leads. The veteran was hired as an Insurance Claims Agent, earning $52,000.00 per year.
