Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. October 2019

• A service-connected disabled veteran received a full complement of career planning services and techniques from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran used the learned techniques to gain full time employment as a Coach /Plant Management & Supervisor earning $87,000.00 a year with benefits.
• A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with resume enhancements, job leads, and job development from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran secured a position as an Outside Sales Representative earning a salary of $50,000.00 plus commission.
• A service-connected disabled veteran that received job leads, resume, and job searching assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist and was hired as a Construction Services Department Manager earning $42,500.00 a year.
• A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist provided a service-connected disabled veteran with individual career services including a detailed assessment, individual employment strategy, resume development assistance, and job referrals. The veteran accepted a position as an IT Technician with a starting wage of $16.00 per hour with full medical, dental, and 401k benefits.
• A service-connected disabled veteran was hired through the veteran WI state non-compete appointment program while working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff as a Corrections Monitoring Agent with a starting pay rate of $16.25 per hour with full benefits.
• A low-income veteran was provided a comprehensive assessment, career guidance, job referrals, and resume assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that helped the veteran find employment as a Sales Associate earning $12.50 per hour.
• A veteran overcame homelessness through collaborative efforts by the Center for Veteran Issues and Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran applied for several opportunities and accepted a position as an HVAC Technician earning $51,000.00 annually.
• A homeless veteran received training from the Center for Veteran Issues and Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that taught the veteran how to write an effective resume and enhanced their interviewing skills. The veteran used those skills to gain employment as a Warehouse Worker earning $31,000.00 annually.
• A homeless veteran gained employment as a General Laborer at a starting wage of $11.00 per hour after receiving a myriad of intensive services including: an employment plan, resume development, interview guidance, and skill matching from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff.
• A homeless veteran received assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist to secure an apartment, create a resume, and conduct effective work search practices. The veteran began employment as a full-time cook at a state university with an initial wage of $10.50 per hour plus full benefits.
• A low-income veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Outreach Program Specialist, secured employment as a Production Supervisor earning $75,000.00 annually.
• A veteran who was at risk of becoming homeless worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development and job referrals. The veteran accepted a position as a Field Service Technician earning $62,400.00 per year.
• A homeless veteran received guidance and assistance through collaboration with the Center for Veteran Issues and the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was hired as a Material Handler earning $33,000.00 per year.
• A homeless veteran worked with the Center for Veteran Issues and the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided housing resources and a variety of employment services. The veteran gained employment with a plastics production company with a starting pay rate of $32,000.00 annually.
• A service-connected disabled veteran obtained employment as a Forklift Operator and Logistician earning $18.00 per hour with a generous benefits package. The Office of Veteran Employment Services staff provided a comprehensive assessment, resume development, interview skills support, and job development at a local job fair, which initiated the interview process for the veteran.
• A low-income veteran obtained employment as a Butcher earning $17.50 per hour after working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff where they were provided resume development, interview tips and techniques and were skilled matched with several employers by the Local Veteran Employment Representative.
• A service-connected disabled veteran requested services to find employment in the manufacturing sector. The veteran was skill marketed by the Office of Veteran Employment Service staff where the veteran was hired at $12.00 per hour until training and certification is completed in six weeks, then their pay will be set at $ 15.50 per hour with benefits.
• A low-Income veteran received assistance with resume development, job leads, and job development. The veteran secured a position as a Limited Term HR Assistant at a rate of $15.00 per hour.
• A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation program accepted employment as a Marketing Analyst earning $39,000 per year. A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist assisted the veteran with employment counseling, labor market information, and resume development, while the veteran sought employment.
• A service-connected disabled veteran who was previously incarcerated was hired as a Maintenance Technician earning $15.00 per hour. The veteran received assistance from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist on resume development, job searches, and the Federal Bonding application.
