Veteran Outreach and Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. Success Stories

December 2022

  • A homeless veteran received career guidance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided housing through collaboration with the Center for Veterans Issues and received resume assistance and coaching on the interview process. The veteran accepted a fulltime position as a Warehouse Specialist, earning $44,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness & Employment Program (Chapter 31), was guided by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided resume development and direct job leads. The veteran was hired as an Insurance Agent with a starting wage of $40,560.00 per year.
  • A homeless veteran was provided referrals to partners for housing assistance, resume development and direct job leads by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was hired into a Customer Service role with a starting wage of $15.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was guided through case management with the Office of Veteran Employment Services was provided resume development, direct job leads, interviewing assistance, and partner referrals. Through this assistance, the veteran was hired as a Quality Technician, with a salary of $97,500.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled and justice-involved veteran received employment support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development, job searching leads, and partner referrals, which led to the veteran gaining employment as a Wire Tech Laborer with a starting wage of $19.00 per hour.
  • A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with developing a resume, partner referrals for various employment and human services, and job leads. Through this assistance, the veteran was hired as a Shop Helper with a cabinet manufacturer, with a starting wage of $18.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received resume modification assistance, job leads, and community resources for additional veteran benefits. Because of this support, the veteran was hired as a Stocker with a local grocery store with a starting wage of $15.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran who was at risk of becoming homeless received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided individualized career services including mentoring, resume development, and job leads. The veteran secured employment in the shipping and receiving industry earing $23.25 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was given extensive employment guidance and support while being provided individualized career services such as resume development, mock interviewing practice, and job leads. After receiving these services, the veteran secured employment as a Maintenance Technician earning $21.00 per hour.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process and direct job leads. The veteran was also provided partner referrals for housing assistance. The veteran was hired as a Warehouse Specialist and will be earning $40,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran received employment guidance and services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume development, job leads, and housing assistance through partner referrals. The veteran was hired as a Van Driver, with a starting salary of $28,000.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that provided a full complement of career planning services, including resume development, and direct job referrals. The veteran was hired as a Project Manager, earning $120,000.00 annually.
  • A low-income veteran received employment assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume development, interview coaching, partner referrals for assistance, and job leads. The veteran was hired as a Transfer Cart Operator, with a starting salary of $23.00 per hour.
  • A veteran who was unemployed for more than 27 weeks worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services where they received resume development, partner referrals, and job leads. The veteran was hired into a part-time desired role as a Store Associate, with a starting wage of $19.00 an hour, while also being a full-time student.
  • A low-income veteran received guidance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided multiple referrals to community resources, as well as resume development and job leads. The veteran was hired as a Maintenance Tech 4, with a starting wage of $23.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided resume development, job leads, and community resource referrals from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was hired as a Police Assistant, with a starting wage of $37,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided resume assistance and federal resume creation. The veteran was hired into a federal GS position with the Department of Defense, managing contracts and bids. This is a GS-9 position with a starting pay of $62,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided the veteran resume development, and direct job leads. This led to the veteran gaining employment as a Training and Development Manager, with a starting salary of $98,000.00 per year.
  • A low-income and homeless veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services where the veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, coaching and job leads. The veteran was also provided partner resources for housing. The veteran secured employment in the vehicle body repair industry, earning $22.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that provided the veteran individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing, and job leads. The veteran attained employment in the maintenance sector, earning $25.00 per hour.
  • DVOP Gau - A service-connected disabled veteran was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with federal resume development, interview techniques, and guidelines with federal hiring. The veteran was hired as a Federal Medical Support Assistant, with a starting wage of $16.50.
  • DVOP Gau - A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with resume development, interview preparation, multiple job leads, including state and federal application assistance. The veteran accepted federal employment as a Security Assistant, with a starting wage of $39,000.00 per year.
  • DVOP Gau - A service-connected disabled veteran was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received help with resume development for both a federal and state resume, federal interview techniques, and guidelines with federal hiring. The veteran accepted a Federal position as a Program Specialist, with an annual salary of $57,138.00.
  • DVOP Casey - A prior justice involved veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with resume development, interviewing, and direct job leads. The veteran also received referrals to partner agencies for benefits and housing. The veteran accepted a position as a Tow Truck Driver, with a starting pay of $18.00 an hour.
  • DVOP Hamiester - A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume updating, job leads, and community resources for additional veteran benefits. The veteran was hired as a Diesel Service Technician, with a starting pay of $24.30 an hour.
  • DVOP Phelps - A low income and at risk of homeless veteran, received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including mentoring, resume development, and job leads. The veteran secured employment in the recycling industry, as a forklift driver earning $18.00 hour.
