Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. May 2022

  • A veteran at-risk of becoming homeless was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness through the help of CVI and OVES staff, and accepted a fulltime job offer as a Construction Specialist earning $42,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, a comprehensive assessment, and an individualized employment plan with job referrals. The veteran accepted a position as a Machine Operator earning $42,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume assistance, federal resume assistance and job leads. The veteran started a full-time position earning $62,400 as a Dump Truck Driver.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who received resume assistance, job leads, and continuing education referrals. The veteran accepted a job offer as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a state agency. This position has a starting salary of $86,000 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who received assistance with resume development, soft skills and interviewing techniques, and direct job leads. The veteran was hired into a role as a Program Specialist earning $73,500 per year.
  • A low-income and service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided the veteran assistance with resume development, job leads, and partner referrals for assistance. The veteran was hired into a role as a Forklift Operator with a starting salary of $19.00 per hour.

The veteran received resume development, comprehensive assessment, and individual employment with job referrals, along with housing resources. The veteran was offered a position as a Machine Operator with an industrial plant earning $49,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran was provided individualized career services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, a comprehensive assessment and individual employment with job referrals. The veteran was offered a position as a Machine Operator with Meat industry corporation earning $45,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran in the HVRP program received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a comprehensive assessment, resume critiquing, and employment search assistance. The veteran accepted an offer as a Sales Manager earning $31,680.00 per year, plus bonus and commission.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing assistance, and numerous job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Project Manager with a starting wage of $85,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided resume development and direct job referrals. The veteran was hired as a Staff Accountant with a starting salary of $60,000.00 a year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff with career planning, resume development, and job applications. The veteran applied for and accepted a new position within his company as an Electrical Engineer. This is a full-time position with starting wage of $25.00 an hour.
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provide resume development, job leads, and outside agency referrals to mitigate employment barriers. The veteran was hired as a Customer Service Representative for a large box store with a starting wage of $12.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received resume development, job searching assistance, and cover letter creation from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. With the staff assistance, the veteran was hired as an Estimator/Project Manager with a starting salary of $41,500.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided a myriad of career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that included resume development, interviewing techniques, and specific job leads for the veteran's goal of part-time work. The veteran was hired as a Parts Tester with a starting salary of $15.00 per hour.
  • A low-income and service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume assistance, job searching and direct job referral assistance, and co-enrollment with partner agencies. The veteran accepted a full-time Packaging position with a starting wage of $14.00 per hour.
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was provided resources for housing as well as resume development, job searching, and job leads. The veteran was hired as a Package Handler with a starting pay of $16.00 per hour plus overtime.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was assisted with resume development and job search assistance. The veteran was offered a position as a Consulting Company Contractor. This is a full-time position with a starting wage of $52,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development and direct job leads. The veteran applied for and was hired as a Vineyard Manager with a starting wage of $19.50 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services who completed a comprehensive assessment, an individual employment plan along with job referrals, and other supportive services referrals. The veteran accepted an offer (remote work) as an Ombudsman, with a starting salary of $49,000 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received numerous career services the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with resume development, state and federal job searching assistance and direct job leads. The veteran was hired into a city role as a Purchaser with a starting pay of $62,389.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including much one-on-one mentoring, resume development, coaching and job leads. The veteran applied and was hired in the manufacturing industry at a rate of pay of $24.50 per hour.
  • A veteran who completed the Veteran Readiness and Employment Program worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a comprehensive assessment, individual employment plan and resume critiquing and employment assistance. The veteran secured a position as an HR Manager earning $59.00 per hour.
  • A transitioning servicemember worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was provided resume assistance and job leads. The veteran accepted a full-time position as a Small Engine Mechanic and Salesman with a starting wage of $18.00 per hour, plus commission.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. This included resume development, interview assistance and direct job leads. The veteran was hired as a Maintenance Technician with a starting wage of $32.25 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that provided resume assistance, interviewing and job leads. Following an interview, the veteran was offered a position as a Production Manager earning $34.31 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled and 18-24 year-old veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who received career services including employment plan development, resume assistance, and job leads. The veteran also utilized benefits to further their education. The veteran was hired as a Security Officer with a starting salary of $18.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The services included were resume assistance, interviewing skills, and job leads. The veteran interviewed and was hired as a Finance Associate with a starting pay of $21.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran received services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included career guidance, resume assistance, interviewing skills, and direct job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Laborer with a starting pay of $14.00 per hour.
