Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. July 2021

• A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with resume development, career exploration, and job leads from the Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist. The veteran secured a position as a Grounds Supervisor with a starting salary of $70,000.00 per year.
• A service-connected disabled Vietnam era veteran received assistance with resume development, interviewing and job leads from the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran secured a full-time position in as an Assembler. Starting pay is $15.00 per hour.
• A homeless service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with housing through partner referrals. The veteran also received resume development, and job development with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran secured a full-time federal position as a Housekeeping Aide. The starting pay is $17.03 per hour.
• A service-connected disabled veteran accepted a position as a Personal Trainer after receiving career services assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. Services included resume development and direct job referral. The veteran negotiated a salary of $10.15 per hour plus commission. 
• A Vietnam-era veteran who worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff received intensive career services including resume development, interviewing skills and job leads. The veteran was able to secure a position as a Warehouse worker with an annual salary of $38,640.00. 
• A veteran that was unemployed for more than 27 weeks was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff that included resume development and interviewing techniques was hired as a Driver with a wage of $35,600.00 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment program/Chapter 31 program and received employment guidance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff gained a professional position as a Database Administrator with a starting annual salary of $91,000.00. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, partner referrals and job leads. The veteran accepted an offer as a Computer Operator, earning $58,500.00 per year. 
• A veteran released from incarceration worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and applying for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Production Assistant earning $10.00 per hour to supplement their Social Security Insurance payments. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist (DVOP). The veteran and the DVOP worked together on building resumes, job referrals, action plans and mock interviews. The veteran was offered and accepted a position with a cleaning company with a salary of $44,700.00 a year. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran began working with staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran worked on a targeted resume, interview skills, and job search skills. The veteran found employment as a Social Worker earning an annual salary of $56,160.00. 
• A low-income and homeless veteran, that was recently released from incarceration was dual enrolled with the Veterans Homeless Recovery Program (VHRP) and referred to the Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) for employment assistance from Garske's Veteran Services. The DVOP and veteran completed an IEP, resume development, and job development. The veteran was subsequently hired as a Printing Technician and will earn $15.30 per hour, work full-time, and have full benefits. 
• A homeless veteran worked with Office of Veteran Services representatives on resume creation, job search, and JCW registration. The veteran has accepted a position as a machine operator at $10.00 per hour with benefits option. 
• A low-income and homeless veteran was assisted by the local Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist with resume, job search, and interviewing skills. The veteran has accepted a position as a Floor Care Technician with a starting pay of $12.50 per hour with benefits. The veteran was also referred to partner agencies for training and assistance. 
• A homeless veteran worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist on resume, job search, and connection to partner services. The veteran has accepted a position as a Dump Truck Driver CDL Class A, making $19.50 per hour to start with benefits. 
• A service-connected and Veteran Readiness & Employment program/Chapter 31 referred veteran, was assisted by the local Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist with resume and job search, including leads and development from the Local Veteran Employment Rep. The veteran has accepted a position as a Front Office Manager for $18.00 per hour with benefits. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was referred to the Office of Veteran Employment Services and worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran received assistance with developing an employment plan and job readiness development. After successfully completing a resume and mock interviews, the veteran was hired as a CDL driver at a starting pay rate of $18.00 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. This included resume development and barrier mitigation assistance. After completing a mock interview, follow up with barrier mitigation, referral to community services, and attending recommended hiring event, the veteran was successfully hired as a Forklift Driver with a starting pay rate of $19.00 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was referred by County Veteran Service Office staff to the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program staff for employment search assistance. The veteran received resume development services along with interviewing skills enhancement. The veteran was referred to a hiring event and was successfully hired as an Order Selector with a starting pay rate of $18.00 per hour.
• A Vietnam Era veteran completed resume development and interviewing skills with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran was hired as a full time Mechanic and will earn $41,600.00 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran connected with staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received job development and job referrals relating to work experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a position as an Electrician Fabricator starting at $54,080.00 annually. 
• A previously incarcerated and low-income veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing skills and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Machine Operator earning $12.00 per hour. 
• A homeless veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist who provided a referral to partner agencies to secure housing and utility assistance for the veteran. The veteran also received resume writing, cover letters, mock interviews and job searching assistance. The veteran interviewed and was hired as a Manufacturing Specialist making $18.50 per hour with a $1,000 sign on bonus and an extra $0.42 per hour for working 3rd shift. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist to job search in their specific desired area of employment. The veteran completed resume development, was provided targeted job leads, and received job development assistance from the Local Veteran's Employment Specialist (LVER). The veteran was hired as a Cyber Security Manager. The veteran will earn $60,000 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was dually enrolled with Garske's veteran services and worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. Services included housing assistance, daycare assistance, and resume & interviewing skills techniques. The veteran has been hired to work for a manufacturing company with a starting wage of $12.50. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was referred to a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist from the Oneida County. County Veteran Services Office. The veteran received interviewing skills, resume development and direct job referral. The veteran was hired as an Administrative Assistant with a Veteran's Organization with a starting wage of $23.50 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Service including resume assistance and job leads. The veteran accepted a full time Security position with benefits offered with an annual salary of $35,360. 
• A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame the risk of homelessness and accepted a job offer as an Industrial Painter with large corporation earning $41,600.00 a year. 
• A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran received resume development, comprehensive assessment, and individual employment with job referrals. The veteran was hired as a Peer Support Counselor and will help rehabilitate persons through community service organization earning $33,000.00 annually. 
• A recently released incarcerated veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist to develop a resume and job searching methods. The veteran applied for several positions and accepted an offer as an Assembler with a starting salary of $33,280.00 per year. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Parts Driver earning $33,000.00 annually. 
• A recently released from incarceration and low-income veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a full-time position as a vehicle driver earning $12.00 per hour. 
• A veteran who was recently released from incarceration and low income worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The DVOP and veteran worked on resume writing, cover letters, mock interviews and continuous job searching that stayed within the needs to overcome legal barriers. The veteran was able to secure a position as a Forklift driver/Material Handler. The veteran will be making $14.68 an hour with a $500 sign on bonus after 3 months and the ability to acquire an additional $0.34 for shift differential. 
• A Low-income, service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) seeking assistance with resume development, mock interview, job search assistance, and guidance. The veteran with the DVOP completed a career assessment, resume development and received job development assistance from the local veteran employment representative (LVER). The Veteran was hired as an insurance representative with full benefits and starting pay of $22.53/hr. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) after being terminated due to COVID-19 and completing their Veteran Affairs, Veteran Readiness and Employment CH-31 Program, for employment. The DVOP and veteran completed federal resume development and received job development assistance from the local veteran's employment representative (LVER). The veteran subsequently accepted a position as a federal GS-11 Logistics Management Specialist, the veteran will earn $68,291 per year. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with a Disabled Veterans Outreach Specialist (DVOP). The DVOP provided a Comprehensive Individualized Assessment and an Individual Employment Plan including resume development and interview assistance. The veteran received a job offer for a position working from home with a salary of over $90,000 per year. 
• A Vietnam Era/low income veteran was assisted by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist on resume development, interviewing, and job search. The veteran accepted a position as a CDL Driver earning $.53 per mile. 
• A veteran who completed the Veteran Readiness and Employment CH-31 Program, and a service-connected disabled veteran, worked with Disabled Veteran Outreach Program representatives on job search, resume, and referral services. The veteran has accepted a position as a Recreational Specialist with a salary of $20.00 per hour with benefits. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialists on resume, job search, and interviewing skills. The veteran was looking for a Maintenance Technician position in the local area. The veteran accepted a position as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician making $18.00 per hour to start with benefits. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was assisted by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist who helped the veteran register for the state's non-compete for veterans' program and was provided resume and letter of qualification assistance. The veteran interviewed and was hired for a state position working with other veterans and will be making $20.80 an hour with full benefits. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development and job referrals services. The veteran accepted an offer as an Airline Pilot, earning $74,000.00 per year. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Service including resume assistance and job leads. The veteran accepted a full time Security position with benefits offered with an annual salary of $36,000. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Service including a direct employer referral. The veteran accepted a full time Federal employee, GS-9; Step 5 position in Waukesha with an annual salary of $62,000. 
• A service- connected disabled veteran received services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided guidance on job sourcing locations and additional information on resumes for federal employment. The veteran received an offer for a position as a Claim Specialist with a pay grade of GS-9; Step 10 with an annual salary of $69,000.00. 
• A veteran at risk of homelessness worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for vacancies. The veteran accepted a position as an Assembler and will be earning $20.00 per hour along with a $2,000.00 bonus. 
• A low-income veteran worked with a local Disabled Veteran Outreach Specialist for assistance with interviewing and targeting resume's to employer job postings. Veteran also received services in career counseling, housing assistance and other utilities with partner co-enrollment. After 3 months of remote services, the veteran secured a position working as a Material Handler on second shift with a wage of $18.40 per hr. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran completed the VA federal Chapter 31 program and worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) to job search and apply for employment suitable to the veteran's disability needs. The staff supported the veteran by providing a comprehensive and individualized assessment, developing, and modifying an Individual Employment Plan with the veteran, assisting with resume development and job search assistance. The veteran was hired as an Office Assistant with a starting pay of 17.00 and benefits. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The veteran and DVOP worked on resume development, interviewing techniques, and job search. The veteran accepted a position in a health care facility making $20.00 per hour plus benefits. 
• A service-connected veteran who completed the VA Veteran Employment and Readiness Program/ Chapter 31 worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) on job searching, resume, and interview assistance. Upon graduation, the veteran accepted a position as a Manufacturing Engineer with a salary of $70,000 per year plus benefits. 
• A chapter 31 and service-connected veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) on job searching, resume assistance and benefit resources. The veteran accepted a position as a Business Representative making $19 per hour plus benefits. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from a local Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The veteran and the DVOP worked on resume building, interview skills, and coordination with the Local Veteran Employment Representative (LVER) for direct job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Project Support Assistant with an IT company. This is full-time position with a starting pay of 19.00 an hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with a local Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) on resume building, co-enrollment, VA referrals and direct job leads. The veteran accepted a position as an Assistant with electrical engineers at a wage of $20.50 an hour plus full benefits. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing and job leads. The veteran was hired full time as a Technical Product Support Specialist earning $50,000 per year. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing and job leads. The veteran was hired full time as an Administrative Technician earning approximately $45,000 per year. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing and job leads. The veteran was hired full time as an Electrical Maintenance Mechanic. This is a full-time position with a starting pay of $30.00 an hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided individualized career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Service staff including resume assistance, mock interview, job leads and job board referrals. The veteran accepted a full time Security Management position with a continuously growing company that offers health and retirement benefits with a starting annual salary of $58,240.00. 
• A homeless veteran was working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received career services including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. The veteran used those skills to gain employment as Lead Manager for a federal agency earning $110,000.00 annually. 
• A low-income veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff . The veteran overcame being at risk for homelessness and accepted a job offer as a Machinist earning $44,600.00 annually. 
• A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services on resume development and received suggestions on how to address arrest and conviction during interviews. The veteran also received assistance with job leads and referrals. The veteran accepted a position as a CNC Operator earning up to $37,400.00 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for vacancies. The veteran accepted a position as a Food Preparer. The veteran will be earning $32,000 annually.
• A low-income veteran was provided assistance by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The veteran received services in career counseling, resume writing, employment plan of action and job searching. He was also referred to Forward Services to secure housing assistance. The veteran was able to gain employment as a material handler on second shift with a wage of $18.40 hr. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran who was laid off at the beginning of the pandemic began working with staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran worked on their resume, targeted resume, interview skills, and job search skills. The veteran found employment as a Maintenance Automation Specialist earning an hourly wage of $33.50/hr. plus overtime and bonuses. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran received services from a local Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The veteran and the DVOP worked on resume building, interview skills, and coordination with the Local Veteran Employment Representative (LVER) for direct job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Security Specialist. This is full-time position with a starting pay of 19.00 an hour. 
• A Service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment/ Chapter 31 program worked with a local Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The veteran and the DVOP worked on resume building, and direct job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a CNC Machinist. The position includes starting pay of 22.00 an hour plus tuition reimbursement. 
• A homeless veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing, and job leads. The veteran was hired full time as a Locomotive Engineer / Conductor making $30.90 once training is completed. Training rate per hour is $28.40.
