Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. November 2018

• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran who completed a Department of Veterans Affairs funded education program. Staff provided resume development; job referrals; and case management support that helped lead to an accepted employment offer for the position of Legal Instruments Examiner (Fiduciary Accounts) starting at $43,075.00 per year.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with resume development; job referrals; and referrals to hiring events. Services provided helped lead to an accepted employment offer for an Assembler position starting at $17.00 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with resume development and job referrals. Services provided helped lead to an accepted employment offer for a Mover position starting at $13.50 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with resume development; job referrals; and referrals to hiring events. Services provided helped lead to an accepted employment offer for an Assembler position starting at $14.50 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with resume and cover letter development; job referrals; and mock interviews. Services provided helped lead to an accepted employment offer for an Inside Sales Coordinator position starting at $15.00 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; career guidance; resume development to highlight work experience; case management; and job search and placement information. The veteran was offered and accepted a Circulation Distribution Manger position based on prior management experience. The starting wage is $14.00 per hour plus performance bonuses.
• A former work study participant with the Office of Veteran Employment Services team recently lost employment from their current employer due to downsizing. Due to the knowledge and skills gained from work study experience and through additional services received from veteran employment staff, the veteran was offered and accepted an Account Manager position starting at $16.00 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; resume development to highlight work experience; case management; and job referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Corrections Officer position starting at $14.89 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a low-income veteran with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; resume development to highlight work experience; and job referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Delivery Driver position starting at $55,000.00 per year.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; career guidance; resume development to highlight work experience; case management; and job search and placement information. The veteran was offered and accepted a Network Engineer position based on prior work and education experience. The starting wage is $60,450.00 per year.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted 2 veterans who had been homeless with resume development highlighting work experience; interview skills development; career guidance; and job referrals. The veterans were offered, and accepted Assembler positions based on graduation of an 8-week assembly course. The starting wage is $18.48 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a low-income veteran with resume development highlighting work experience; interview skills development; career guidance; and job and employer referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a Graphic Production Technician position based on prior work and education experience. The starting wage is $19.00 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran who is also low-income and had experienced homelessness with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; career guidance; resume development to highlight work experience; case management; and job search and placement information. The veteran, having many years of Property Management experience was offered and accepted a Property/Maintenance Manager position based on prior work and education experience. The starting wage is $1,550 per month plus housing, utilities, and a monthly tank of heating fuel.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a veteran who had experienced homelessness and received supportive services through the Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program and the Center for Veterans Issues, with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; career guidance; resume development to highlight work experience; case management; and job search and placement information. The veteran was offered and accepted a Sales position based on prior work experience. The starting wage is $15.00 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff connected with a veteran who had received supportive services through the Center for Veterans Issues relating to prior incarceration. Staff helped with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; career guidance; resume development to highlight work experience; case management; and job search and placement information. The veteran was offered and accepted an Assembler position based on prior work experience. The starting wage is $18.48 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a veteran who was at risk of homelessness with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; resume development to highlight work experience; and case management. The veteran was offered and accepted a Forklift Driver position based on prior work experience. The starting wage is $16.75 per hour.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; career guidance; resume development to highlight work experience; case management; and job search and placement information. The veteran was offered and accepted a Program Director position based on prior work experience. The starting wage is $34,000.00 per year.
• Office of Veteran Employment Services staff assisted a service-connected disabled veteran with an initial assessment to determine needs and eligibility; career guidance; resume development to highlight work experience; case management; and job search and placement information. The veteran was offered and accepted a Veterans Program Manager position based on prior work experience. The starting wage is $58,500.00 per year.

The veteran was offered and accepted a Customer Service Representative position based on prior work experience. The starting wage is $17.50 per hour.
