Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. August 2021

• An at risk for homelessness veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a full-time job offer as a Small Electrical Repair Specialist with a starting salary of $47,000.00 annually. 
• A low income and 27-week unemployed veteran received career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran worked on their resume and received interviewing assistance. The veteran accepted a position as a Technical Drafter with a salary of $23.00 per hour. 
• A low-income and 27-week unemployed veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who worked with the veteran on resume development and job leads. The veteran was able to secure a position as a Chaplain with a salary of $28.00 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff on resume development, interviewing, and job applications. The veteran was hired as a Supply Engineer with a wage of $88,000.00 per year with benefits. 
• A low-income veteran received assistance with resume development; job searching; and interviewing techniques from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. After interviewing with several companies, the veteran accepted a position as a Project Manager with full benefits and a starting salary of $120,000.00 per year. 
• A low income and unemployed more than 27-weeks veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received career guidance; job referrals; resume creation; and employment search assistance. The veteran applied for and was offered a position as a Security Officer, earning $15.50 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled Veteran received assistance from the staff of the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a position of Machine Operator earning $47,680 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran received guidance, mentoring, support, and assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing, and job leads. The veteran was hired full time as a Telephone Representative earning $21.56 per hour. 
• the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a full-time job offer as an Equipment Maintenance Specialist and will earn $33,280.00 annually. 
• A low-income veteran who was provided assistance with a resume and improvement of their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Package Sorter earning $37,240.00 annually. 
• A low-income veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided employment assistance and coaching on the interview process. The veteran accepted a job offer as a Teacher earning $43,400.00 annually.
• A veteran who has been unemployed more than 27 weeks received services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran was provided guidance on interviewing, resume writing and job sourcing. The veteran interviewed and was offered a position as a warehouse Material Handler earning $44,000.00 annually. 
• A service-connected veteran received individualized career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff and was provided numerous career planning services and the tools to make the veteran job-ready. Using those tools, the veteran was able to secure a position as a Customer Service/Stocking Clerk earning $31,200.00 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided career planning services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff which led to the veteran securing a position as a Legal Instrument Examiner with a starting annual salary of $57,400.00. 
• A Transitioning Service Member directed by a Commander to visit an American Job Center worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and applying for jobs. The veteran accepted a position in manufacturing earning $ 26.00 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received career guidance, resume updating, job board searches, interviewing workshops, and mock interviews. The veteran secured a position with a local Foundry making $23.00 an hour with full benefits. 
• A service-connected, low-income veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) completing an individual employment plan, resume development, and began a rigorous employment search for public sector employment. The veteran was hired as an adjunct IT Infrastructure Professor. The veteran will earn $45.00 per hour and will become a tenured member of the faculty after one calendar year. 
• A homeless, low-income veteran was referred to a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist by the Veterans Outreach & Recovery Program Specialist (VORP) partner. The DVOP provided a comprehensive and individualized assessment, developed employment goals and an individual employment plan with the veteran. The veteran started a regular work search and DVOP provided several job referrals, housing assistance, and transportation referrals. The veteran was hired as a full-time position as a Helper at $19.50/hour plus benefits and the opportunity to gain a CDL. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran received support and assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was specifically provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing, and job leads. The veteran was hired full time as a State of WI employee earning $24.08 / hour. 
• An at risk for homelessness veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame at risk for homelessness and accepted a full-time job offer with benefits as Facility Maintenance Specialist with a printing company at $34,000.00 annually. 
• A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, comprehensive assessment, and an individual employment with job referrals. The veteran was hired as a Tool Specialist and will make appliances, coils and switches for local firm earning $39,000.00 – annually. 
• An at risk for homelessness veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a full-time job offer as a Small Electrical Repair Specialist earning $47,000.00 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran accepted a position as an Accountant after receiving career services assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran negotiated a salary of $58,400.00 annually. 
• A low-income veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Warehouse Associate earning $33,280.00 annually. 
• A homeless and low-income veteran completed resume development with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran was hired as a full time Substance Abuse Counselor-in-Training earning $43,680.00 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as an Aesthetician earning $40,000.00 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Service Technician earning $43,680 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with Office of Veteran Employment Services where they were provided assistance to the CVSO for GI-Bill information, provided leads for an internship position with a local engineering department and was offered a full-time position at 18.00 an hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist (DVOP). The DVOP and veteran completed an individual employment plan, resume development, and job searching plan. The veteran ultimately accepted a position as a full time Geothermal Engineering Technician, will earn $49,000 per year, and have full benefits. 
• A low-income and a service-connected disabled veteran, worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The DVOP and veteran completed an individualized employment plan (IEP), resume development, and assisted with job applications. The veteran accepted a position w/ the Wisconsin Technical College Systems as an adjunct Professor. The veteran will earn $45.00 per hour, work 25-30 hours per week, and will become a tenured member of the faculty after one calendar year. 
• A homeless low-income veteran worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The DVOP and veteran completed resume development and JCW job searching and began applying immediately. The veteran applied for and accepted a position as a full-time 1st shift Robotic Saw Machine Operator. The veteran will earn $17.00 per hour and earn full benefits. 
• A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, comprehensive assessment, and individual employment with job referrals. The veteran is hired as a Marketing/Salesman with local company selling saunas earning $39,000.00 annually. 
• An at risk for homelessness veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a fulltime job offer as a Small Electrical Repair Specialist with a large corporation beginning August 26, 2021 and will earn $47,000.00 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran was provided career planning assistance by the Office of Veteran Employment Services, which led to the veteran securing a professional position as a Senior Connecting Agent with a starting annual salary of $100,000. 
• A Vietnam era veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career guidance, resume updating, and job searching assistance. The veteran secured a position driving a quad axle dump truck earning $23.00 an hour with full benefits. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran began working with staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran worked on their targeted resume, interview skills, and job search skills. The veteran found employment as a Material Handler earning $17.88/hr. 
• A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was able to find permanent housing; along with receiving resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Corporate Security Officer earning $37,980 annually 
• An at risk of being homelessness veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as an Electrical Technician earning $65,480 annually 
• A veteran who is at risk of being homeless worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and apply for vacancies. The veteran accepted employment as a Printing Press Operator, starting pay rate is $41,600 annually. 
• A service-connected disabled and low-income veteran worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialist (DVOP). The DVOP and veteran completed an individual employment plan, resume development, and began a rigorous employment search. The veteran ultimately accepted a position as an Adjunct IT Infrastructure Professor The veteran will earn $45.00 per hour, work 25-30 hours per week, and will become a tenured member of the faculty after one calendar year. 
• A Low-income, service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) seeking assistance with resume development, job search assistance, and outside agency referrals. The Veteran was offered and accepted employment as a Frontend Loader earning $19/hr. with full benefits. 
• A Low-income veteran with a pending service connect disability determination worked with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The veteran was provided numerous services including skills assessment, case management, resume development, and interview assistance. The veteran was hired as an assistant soccer coach – making $18.20 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP). The veteran was provided resume update, interviewing practice, job leads and support. The veteran interviewed and was hired by a local company as a Department Supervisor with a starting pay of 48,000 a year 
• A service-connected disabled and prior justice involved veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was given guidance on doing a career assessment, career guidance, housing assistance, and employment search. The veteran accepted an offer as a Production Line Worker earning $20.00 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled and Chapter 31 veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided career guidance, assistance with creating a resume and cover letter, and housing referral. The veteran accepted an offer as an ER Nurse earning $32.40 per hour + $4.00 night-Shift differential 
• A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES), on resume development, interviewing, and Non-Compete for Veterans registration. The veteran was hired through the Non-Compete for Veterans program with the state of Wisconsin as a Program Manager. The veteran will earn 25.98 an hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran, received guidance, mentoring, support and assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing, and job leads. The veteran was hired full time as a Custodian at $12 per hour. 
• A service-connected disabled veteran received guidance, mentoring, support, and assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing, and job leads. The veteran was hired full time as a computer assisted (CAT) designer at $20 per hour.
