Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. November 2021

  • A homeless veteran was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, a comprehensive assessment, and an individual employment plan with job referrals. The veteran is hired as Technician earning $31,000.00 annually.
  • A homelessness veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer as a Production Specialist with a food company and will earn $31,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran who was co-enrolled with Homeless Veteran Rehabilitation Program and the Office of Veteran Employment Service, received a comprehensive assessment, an Individual Employment plan and case management services. The veteran accepted a position earning $20.00 hr. as a Supply Technician.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Registered Nurse earning $65,000.00 annually.
  • A Low-income/homeless veteran was provided career services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services team. The veteran learned to revise a resume, received suggestions and assistance with job leads and referrals and secured a position as line Picker/Sorter with an annual salary of $31,200.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career planning assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran applied to several positions and accepted a position as a Crew Member (Loader) earning an annual salary of $31,200.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who was at risk of becoming homeless, worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received services securing living accommodation, VA registration, and other partner referrals. The veteran was given assistance in career guidance, job referral, resume assistance, and computer skills workshops. The veteran will be receiving disability and social security benefits as well as income from working a part-time job. The veteran starting wage is $12.50 an hour and as requested, working less than 24 hours per week.
  • A Veteran at risk of becoming homeless, worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, and job lead assistance as well as a mock interview. The Veteran accepted a position as a Line Cook earning $15.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development and mock interview assistance. The veteran accepted a position as a Truck Driver. The veteran will earn $60,000 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment / Chapter 31 program was provided services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a comprehensive assessment, Individual Employment Plan, job referrals, and other supportive services. The veteran accepted an offer as a Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner earning $27.74 per hour with a $4.00 Night Shift Differential.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing skills, and direct referral to job leads. The veteran accepted a position with a local delivery service as a Package Handler. This is a full-time position with a starting pay of $17.50 per hour plus a 1.00 shift premium for third shift.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who completed the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment / Chapter 31 program, worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received interview assistance, resume development and job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Senior Business Analyst, for a technology contractor with a starting wage of $55.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development and job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Bank Teller with a starting pay of $18.00 per hour.
  • A low-income and homeless veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing and job leads. The veteran also received housing assistance through a local partner. The veteran secured a position at a local cheese manufacturing plant making $16.00 per hour as a Production Worker.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran referred by VA Veteran Readiness and Employment program was provided individualized case management services. Services included resume writing and job searching assistance by Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist staff. The veteran was offered and accepted a Warehouse Supervisor position with a pay rate of $60,000 per year.
  • A special disabled veteran accepted a position as a Lead Generation Specialist after receiving career services assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran accepted a position earning $31,200.00 per year.
  • A veteran that is at risk of homelessness was provided services with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who guided the veteran through individualized career services and housing resource assistance. The veteran was thereafter able to secure a position as a Parts Specialist with an annual salary of $28,540.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received a full complement of career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. This included job leads and resume review. The veteran was hired as a PC Technician with an annual salary of $60,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development and job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer as a 2nd shift shop Foreman earning over $58,000.00 per year.
  • A low-income veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as an Electronic/Electrical Designer earning $70,000.00 annually.
  • An 18–24-year-old veteran completed resume development and many other individualized career services with the Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist. The veteran was hired as an Administrative/HR Specialist and will earn $37,440.00 annually.
  • A Vietnam Era Veteran who was at risk of being homeless was assisted with resume assistance, reviewed interview questions and job searching by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was also provided housing resource information. The veteran was contacted immediately and is working full time as a forklift driver making $43,520.00 per year.
  • A homelessness veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer with benefits as a Nursing Assistant with an annual salary of $35,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was provided assistance with interviewing, resume building, and other veteran benefit information through the local CVSO. The veteran was hired as a 1st shift Welding Supervisor with a starting wage of $32.00 an hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing assistance, and assistance in applying for jobs. The veteran interviewed and was hired as a Restaurant Manager with a starting salary of $37,440 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with resume development, and job searching help, including referrals to local job boards. The veteran was also assisted with housing resources and educational benefit information. The veteran decided to utilize benefits and return to school full-time.
  • A previously incarcerated veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development and instruction. The veteran also worked on interviewing and job applications. The veteran was hired as a Machine Operator with a starting pay of $18.00 an hour.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume review and job leads. The veteran accepted a position as a Bartender. This is an hourly position plus tips/commission.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance submitting a federal resume and was hired into a Master Planner opening for a large government agency. This is a GS-9 position with a starting pay of $60,000.00 a year, full-time with benefits.
  • A homelessness veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a full-time job offer with benefits as a Nursing Assistant with a starting pay of  $35,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran enrolled in the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment program was provided with an individual employment plan, resume assistance and comprehensive assessment by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. This resulted in the veteran obtaining employment as a Physical Therapy Assistant making $24.00 per hr.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness was provided several career services while on case management with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran applied and interviewed for numerous positions and was offered a position in Sales earning $47,299.20 per year plus commission.
  • A special disabled veteran was provided initial assessment, career guidance, case management, job referrals, resume development, and employment search services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran obtained employment as a Retail Store Manager earning $35,360.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided career planning services by the Office of Veteran Employment Services, which led to the veteran securing a professional position as a Cashier with a starting annual salary of over $27,000.00 and a benefit package.
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and was provided help through Forward Services in the means of housing and eventually was able to apply for a VA Housing Assistance Grant. The veteran also received assistance with resume building and a series of mock interviews which led the veteran to accept a position in Manufacturing with a starting wage of $18.00 per hour working 1st shift with opportunities for overtime.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with resume development, mock interviews, and job lead assistance. The veteran was also assisted in applying for financial assistance from the DAV. The veteran accepted a position with a company as the Director of Operations with starting pay of $48,000 annually.
  • A homeless and ex-offender veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and applying for jobs. Veteran accepted a position of Machine Operator at a local company earning $23.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development and career services from OVES. The Local Veteran Employment Representative contacted a local employer and advocated for veteran to be interviewed. The veteran was hired as a Full-time Bank Teller at $15.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with job search, resume, and interview support. The veteran was referred to a local company and accepted a full-time position as a Job Placement Specialist earning $17.50 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled and low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran worked on resume development, job leads and interviewing techniques. The veteran accepted a position with a state health agency as a Content Strategist. This is a full-time position with starting pay of 26.00 an hour.
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a full-time job offer with benefits as a Nursing Assistant with a starting pay of $35,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran received resume writing and job leads assistance through IVP Program collaboration with the Office of Veteran Services. The veteran accepted a job offer as a Laminator/Countertop Specialist with a local company earning $30,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a job offer as Battery Specialist with local firm earning $30,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume development and other career services while applying for numerous positions that they are qualified for while working with the Office of Veteran Employment team. The veteran secured employment as a Battery Specialist. Their starting pay is $30,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran participating in the HVRP Program received services through the Office of Veteran Employment Services and the HVRP program. The veteran was provided housing resources, numerous career services such as resume development, interviewing techniques and accepted a job offer in Manufacturing with a starting pay of 16.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran accepted a position as a Police Officer after receiving career service assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran received a position offer for $59.000.00 per year and a full benefit package.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided job leads and resume development. The veteran accepted an offer and will be a Senior Purchasing Specialist. This is a full-time role earning $90,000.00 per year with benefits and moving expenses.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received job development and job referrals relating to work experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Maintenance Technician position starting at $57,200.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received guidance on interviewing and job sourcing. This veteran also received several job referrals and eventually interviewed and accepted an offer of $52,000.00 annually as a Maintenance Technician.
  • A low-income veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as an IT Project Manager earning $137,500.00 annually plus a lucrative benefit package.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance with resume development, job searching, and interview techniques from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran has gained employment as an IT Security Analyst with an annual salary of $80,600.00.
  • A justice involved veteran was provided assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The Veteran received assistance with resume development, interviewing, budget creation and goal planning. The veteran accepted a role as a Material Handler earning $19.00 an hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing assistance, and assistance finding and applying for vacancies. The veteran accepted a position as a Sales Manager for a car dealership earning $80,000 annually along with bonuses.
  • A veteran at risk of being homeless worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development, interviewing assistance and assistance finding and applying for jobs. The veteran accepted a position as a Human Resource Manager earning $51,116 a year along with full benefits and a sign on bonus.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, and job referrals. The veteran accepted a position as a Maintenance Tech with a starting pay of $60,000.00 a year plus full benefit.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided the veteran resume development, job searching assistance and direct job leads. The veteran accepted a position with a local manufacturer as a Maintenance Tech-Lead with a starting pay of $32.50 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled and Vietnam era veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing and job leads. The veteran secured a position at a local manufacturer as a Regional Manager earning $73,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled and Vietnam era veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provided individualized career services including resume development, mock interviewing and job leads. The veteran accepted a position as Machine Operator at a local food processing manufacturer and will earn $18.50 per hour.
