Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. December 2019

  • A Vietnam Era veteran who was case managed by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist was provided resume development and job referrals to include the Census Bureau that initially offered them a Field Representative position, however, after a very limited period on the job, the veteran was promoted to a Recruiting Assistant starting at $43,600.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Probation and Parole agent earning $41,250.00 annually.
  • A formerly incarcerated veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received resume development and job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer as a Shipping Clerk/Forklift Driver earning $33,280.00 per year.
  • A previously incarcerated veteran was provided individualized career services by a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist that included developing a new resume and several job referrals. The veteran was hired as a Security Dispatcher with a pay rate of $18.05 per hour.
  • A homeless veteran received assistance with resume development, job leads, job development, and referrals for housing assistance. The veteran secured a position as a Customer Service Specialist earning $18.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who previously worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist received a reassessment, a review of their employment plan, job referrals, and skill matching from a Local Veteran Employment Representative. The veteran accepted a position as an Assembler with a starting wage of $15.91 per hour.
  • A transitioning servicemember was provided a myriad of career services by the Office of Veteran Services staff. The veteran was attempting to navigate around their work/school schedule and needed a supplemental income, so they were provided with job referrals, interviewing techniques, and a resume review. As a result, the veteran gained employment as a Resident Services Specialist earning $14.15 per hour.
  • A low-income and at risk of being homeless veteran secured employment as a Business Consultant earning $90,000.00 per year with the assistance of the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services to receive resume and job development. The veteran accepted an offer as a Maintenance worker earning $53,000.00 per year.
  • A recently discharged veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who provided the veteran with a full complement of career planning services. The veteran gained employment as an Assistant General Manager with an agreement of training for two months at the pay rate of $35,000.00 per year then a subsequent salary of $48,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran obtained employment as a General Technician earning $44,000.00 per year by utilizing the Office of Veteran Employment Staff, whom assisted the veteran with sourcing opportunities, resume development, and mock interviews.
  • A recently released incarcerated veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Welder earning $37,440.00 annually.
  • A previously incarcerated veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist to develop a resume and learn job searching methods. The veteran applied for several positions and accepted an offer as a Heavy Equipment Operator with a starting salary of $37,440.00 per year.
  • A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist provided guidance and a host of employment services to a low-income veteran who was hired for a cleaning position starting at $30,000.00 annually with plans to work on updating their C.N.A certification and license.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received job development services from a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist in finding full-time employment as a Security Line Officer earning $26,000.00 per year.
  • A recently released incarcerated veteran worked with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist to develop a resume and learn job searching methods. The veteran applied for several positions and accepted an offer as a Laborer with a starting salary of $22,880.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided resume and interview skills assistance and was skill matched to several companies, which led to the veteran obtaining a position as a CNC Operator earning $18.50 per hour.
  • A low-income and homeless veteran was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who enhanced the veteran's resume, conducted a mock interview, and provided several employment tips and job referrals. The veteran applied for a position, interviewed, and was hired as a Technical Support Dispatcher earning $16.64 per hour.
  • A Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist provided guidance and a myriad of employment services specific to the needs of a service-connected disabled veteran who was hired as a campus Police Officer starting at $14.00 hourly.
