Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. July 2018

  • A service-connected disabled veteran received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume development and job referrals emphasizing and related to prior work experience. The veteran possessed management skills from previous jobs. The veteran accepted a Human Resources Director position starting at $60,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran nearing completion of a Department of Veterans Affairs-funded education program received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included an initial assessment; resume development; job referrals related to prior work experience; career guidance; and job search and placement assistance. The veteran accepted a Carpenter/Mason position starting at $19.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran completed a Department of Veterans Affairs-funded education program in marketing and public relations. The veteran received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume development emphasizing education and prior work experience. The veteran accepted a Public Affairs Specialist position starting at $65,000.00 per year.
  • A low-income veteran at risk of homelessness connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development; job referrals; and encouragement. Largely due to prior work experience, the veteran was offered and accepted an Inside Sales Representative position starting at $45,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume and interview skills development. The veteran accepted a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor position due to prior work experience with a starting wage of $17.40 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran nearing completion of a Department of Veterans Affairs-funded education program received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume and interview skills development; job referrals emphasizing and related to prior work experience; and job development. The veteran accepted an Administrative Assistant position starting at $37,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran reached out to the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development and job referrals emphasizing and related to prior work experience. The veteran possessed customer service skills from previous jobs. The veteran accepted a Customer Care Specialist position starting at $23.50 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume development and job referrals. The veteran possessed customer service skills from previous jobs. The veteran accepted a Customer Service Representative position starting at $17.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume development and job referrals emphasizing and related to prior work experience. The veteran possessed contracting knowledge from previous jobs. The veteran accepted a Contract Specialist position starting at $33,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included job referrals related to the veteran's interests and qualifications; career fair information; and job development assistance. The veteran was offered and accepted an Emergency Medical Services position starting at $33,000.00 per year based on prior experience.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included job referrals related to the veteran's interests and qualifications; resume development; and job development assistance. The veteran was offered and accepted an Insurance Claims Processor position starting at $20.00 per hour based on prior experience.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received case management support from the Office of Veteran Employment Services that included resume development and job referrals related to the veteran's interests and qualifications. The veteran was offered and accepted a Maintenance Technician position starting at $15.00 per hour based on prior experience.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development to emphasize experience and training; and job and employer referrals related to prior experience. The veteran was offered and accepted a Physician Assistant position starting at $105,000.00 per year.
  • A low-income veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development; and job and employer referrals. The veteran was offered and accepted a City Carrier Assistant position starting at $16.73 per hour. The employer realized the veteran did not necessarily have the exact experience they desired. However, they recognized the veteran's solid work history and they knew the veteran was worth adding to their team.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services hoping to find work in the law field. Staff provided resume development highlighting the veteran's work and education experience; and referrals to jobs, hiring events, and job boards where the veteran could connect with various opportunities. The veteran was offered and accepted a Paralegal position starting at $40,000.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services hoping to find work in the information technology field. Staff provided resume development highlighting the veteran's work and education experience; and referrals to jobs, hiring events, and job boards where the veteran could connect with various opportunities. The veteran was offered and accepted an Information Technology Specialist position starting at $14.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development and employer referrals. The veteran had been a bus driver previously. The veteran accepted a Route/Charter Driver position starting at $16.50 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received case management support that included resume development to highlight prior work experience; and job referrals related to prior experience for which the veteran met qualifications. The veteran was offered and accepted a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor position starting at $22.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran was referred to the Office of Veteran Employment Services for case management support by the Local Veteran Employment Representative. Staff provided resume and interview skills development services. Soon after, the veteran was offered and accepted an Information Technology position with a local employer starting at $14.50 per hour.
  • A veteran transitioning from active military service connected with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received an initial assessment to determine service eligibility and needs; career guidance; resume development and job referrals related to the veteran's experience and training; and job search and placement assistance. The veteran was offered and accepted a Site Safety Manager position starting at $50,000.00 per year.
