Veteran Employment Success Stories

Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. March 2022

  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with housing assistance, career guidance, career planning, WIOA referral, transportation assistance, job leads, referral to online job boards and other support service assistance. The veteran secured a part-time position as a Store Associate working first shift at an hourly rate of $11.00 per hour.
  • An at risk for homelessness veteran was working with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and received career services including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. The veteran was hired as Boiler Technician with local firm earning $64,000.00.
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a fulltime job offer as a Machine Operator with local electric company building circuit breakers with a starting pay of $46,000 annually.
  • A homeless veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who received resume assistance, suggestions and assistance with job leads and referrals. The veteran accepted a Cook position for a local chain specializing in natural food solutions and will earn $36,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was referred to job leads and accepted an offer as an Asphalt Plant Helper Apprentice with a local asphalt company earning $55,640.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services and was provided job referrals, resume development and interview techniques. The veteran secured a position as a Forklift Driver earning $44,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with resume development, Individual Employment Plan, and employment search assistance. The veteran accepted a position as with the federal government as a Legal Instruments Examiner GS-7 earning $46,712.00 a year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services where the veteran developed an executive resume and performed area job searches. After building on soft skills and assessment surveys, the veteran was hired as Lead Manager of installations. The starting salary is $52,000 annually with full benefits.
  • A low-income veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran and staff developed a job search plan and attended on-site hiring events. The veteran was hired as a Shop Mechanic earning $32.00 per hour and another $0.52 shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shift.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career services such as resume development and interviewing assistance. The veteran was offered a position as a Secondary Operator Technician for $17.50 an hour
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from The Office of Veteran Employment Services where the veteran was offered a position as a Secondary Operator Technician for $16.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received job searching information and job board leads. The veteran was offered a position as a Driver for $15.18 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received career services from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. After receiving a myriad of services and guidance, the veteran was offered a position as a Telecommunications Equipment Installer and Repair Technician for $25.50 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran at risk of homelessness worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided referrals to partner agencies for assistance with securing housing, food, and fuel vouchers. The veteran was assisted with resume and job searching assistance. The veteran secured a Driver position with online food delivery services. Their average earnings have been $400.00/week.
  • A service-connected and low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume and job searching assistance. The veteran interviewed and was offered a CDL position as a Spotter. This is a first shift position with a local company earning $20.00 per hour with regular opportunities for over-time.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran was provided job referrals, assessment, and resume review by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was hired as an Educational Assistant at a local school with a starting pay of $34,000.00 annually.
  • A transitioning servicemember directed by their command to work with an American Job Center was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, interviewing skills, training information and job leads. The veteran was hired as a Social Worker with a starting pay of $26.00 per hour.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services where the veteran was provided resume development and job search assistance. The veteran was hired as a Stocker at a local store with a starting pay of $16.50 plus benefits.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who assisted the veteran with job searching, resume development and mock interviews. The veteran accepted a position as an Office Assistant with a starting pay of $20.00 per hour plus benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received a myriad of career service from the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provide a comprehensive assessment, job referrals, and other supportive services. The veteran accepted an offer in a Public Defenders Office making $23.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran completed a comprehensive assessment, job referrals, and other supportive services referrals and guidance on resume writing. The veteran accepted an offer as a Transport Driver making $.95 per mile.
  • A veteran at risk of becoming homeless was guided by the staff of the Office of Veteran Employment Services who provide an assessment and individualized employment plan. The veteran was also given job leads and referrals. The veteran was hired as a Park Maintenance Worker for the local county with a starting pay of $15.00 an hour.
  • A justice involved and low-income veteran, utilizing the Veterans Transitional Housing Program worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services to update their resume and apply for jobs. The veteran was able to secure a position with a local healthcare company as a Housekeeper with a starting wage of $17.00 per hour (plus $2 an hour after 6pm), with a $400 sign on bonus.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who received job leads and resume updating. The veteran was hired as a Driver with a trucking company with starting pay at $25.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided federal resume development, interviewing assistance and direct job referral. The veteran was hired by a federal agency into an administrative role with a starting pay of GS-5 level and $18.52 per hour with full benefits.
  • A veteran who was low-income with a VA disability claim pending was case managed by an Office of Veteran Employment Services team member who received career guidance; job referrals; resume creation; and employment search assistance. The veteran applied for and was offered a position as a Specialty Director earning $150,000.00.
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a full-time job offer as a Production Specialist with local electronics corporation earning $40,000.00 annually.
  • A homeless veteran was provided resume assistance and coaching on the interview process from the Office of Veteran Employment Services while residing at the Center for Veterans Issues. The veteran overcame homelessness and accepted a full-time job offer as a Utility Specialist $30,000 annually.
  • A low-income veteran who learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist, found employment as a Food Production Worker earning $32,240.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the staff from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development and job referral services. The veteran accepted an offer as an Operation Manager earning $130,000.00 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness was provided a comprehensive assessment, resume development and employment assistance by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran accepted a position as an Armored Truck Driver and Security Officer earning $39,520.00 annually.
  • A Low-income and recently discharged veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a referral to educational benefits and enrollment as well as job leads and resume assistance. The veteran accepted a position as a Security Guard while using their educational benefits. Their starting pay is $12.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development assistance and employment guidance. The veteran was hired into a new position with their previous employer as a Senior Product Manager. This is a full-time virtual position earning $145,000.00 annually.
  • A low-income and unemployed veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development and direct job referral to a local manufacturer. The veteran accepted a position as a Machine Operator with a starting wage of $17.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided career guidance and referrals to additional partner resources. The veteran applied for and was hired as a Teacher with a starting pay of $24.38 an hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received assistance with job search, resume development, and interviewing. The veteran accepted a position as a Paralegal with an annual salary of $47,000 with benefits.

The veteran applied for and was offered a position as a Sales Associate earning $50,000.00 per year plus commission.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness was provided services and assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran was provided resume assistance, a comprehensive assessment, and an Individual employment plan. The veteran acquired a position as a Clinical Office Assistant, earning $44,000.00 per year.
  • A Vietnam Era veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services with resume development and interviewing techniques. The veteran began full time employment as a Dump Truck Driver earning an annual salary of $52,000.00.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran learned to develop a resume and improve their interviewing skills, while working with a Disabled Veteran Outreach Program Specialist The veteran found employment as an Estimator, earning over $52,000.00 annually.
  • A justice involved veteran who was homeless was assisted by the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received housing assistance, resume development and job application assistance. The veteran accepted a position with a local manufacturer as a Production Associate with a starting wage of $26.45 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled and homeless veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided a myriad of individualized career services including one on one mentoring, resume development, coaching and job leads. The veteran secured a position.
  • A spouse of a 100 percent service-connected disabled veteran received assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career guidance, resume development, employment plan, job referrals, individualized assessment, and other intensive services. The veteran secured a position as an Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Specialist at a rate of $24.00 per hour.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided with job seeking skills and information for local hiring events. The veteran attended a hiring event and was offered a full-time position on the spot as an Assembly Worker earning $16.50 per hour to start and then $17.50 per hour after 90 days.
  • An unemployed for more then-27 weeks veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided career planning, resume development and direct job leads. The veteran was hired as a TIG Welder. This is a full-time permanent position with a wage of $38,480.00 per year.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services who was provided a comprehensive assessment and resume development, along with job leads. The veteran was hired with as a local Parks and Recreations attendant with a starting pay of $39,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran received resume development suggestions and referrals to several employers by the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff. The veteran agreed to terms for employment as a Tap Room Manager, earning $31,000.00 annually.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness was working with Center for Veteran Issues and the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career services including resume development, interviewing skills, and job search techniques. The veteran used those skills to gain employment building new houses as a Carpentry Specialist earning $50,000.00 annually.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was provided resume development, fine tuning the professional summary, interview skills, and how to do effective job searches. The veteran was able to apply, interview, and gained employment as a part-time Store Associate with a starting pay of $13.36/hour.
  • A low income and justice-involved veteran facing homelessness worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career services including resume development, employment planning and referrals to outside resources. The veteran accepted a full-time Assembly position at a local manufacturer with a starting wage of $18.00 per hour with a sign on bonus and potential raises within the first year.
  • A low-income veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was assisted with an unemployment claim, resume development, and work search assistance. The veteran applied for and was hired as a Maintenance Technician with a local company. Starting wage is $28.23 per hour plus full benefits.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran was a recent college graduate and was provided an individual employment plan, resume development, and job leads. The veteran applied for and was hired as a Judicial Court Operations Associate. This is a full-time position with a starting wage of $19.71 per hour.
  • A veteran at risk of homelessness was receiving career services assistance from the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, outside resources for housing and job leads. The veteran was hired as a local delivery Driver with a starting salary of $38,480.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran who worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services staff who guided the veteran through intensive career services. The veteran was thereafter able to secure a position as a Technician with a salary of $49,920.00 per year.
  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received career services including resume development, interviewing and job leads. The veteran was hired as a Biomedical Repair Technician. This is a full-time permanent position with a wage of $56,1600.00 per year.
  • A Vietnam Era veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services. The veteran received resume development, and a comprehensive assessment and an Individual Employment Plan with job referrals. The veteran accepted an offer as a Maintenance Mechanic with an annual salary of $41,600.00.

The veteran was hired as a Material Handler with a local packing corporation and will be earning a starting wage of $14.00 per hour.

The veteran was assisted in interview preparation and was then hired by a local cement company as a Cement Truck Driver. This is a full-time position with a starting wage of $27.00 per hour.

The veteran received resume updating and interview assistant and was hired full-time as a Computer Network Support Specialist for a local company with a starting wage of $29.15 per hour.

  • A service-connected disabled veteran worked with the Office of Veteran Employment Services where they received resume development and direct job leads. The veteran was hired as a Facility Manager with a local manufacturing company with a starting annual salary of $105,000.00.
