For a New Claim or to Reopen an Existing Claim
You do not need to do a work search at this time. Ignore instructions you may receive (online or in the mail) that say otherwise.
NOTE: DWD is awaiting clarification and guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor regarding how states may implement President Trump's executive order restoring additional UI payments for lost wages. The new payments are not available at this time. We will update our website when new information is available.
We are accepting Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) online applications from individuals unable to work as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic who do NOT qualify for Regular Unemployment Insurance (UI), e.g. self-employed, independent contractors, workers with limited work history.
If you're out of work through no fault of your own, and you've worked for a covered employer (an employer who pays UI tax) in the last 18 months, you'll need to apply for regular UI benefits before you can begin filing a weekly claim.
Please make sure you have these documents ready to go to make your application quick and easy:
Hours of Operation: Online services are available at the following times to apply for Regular UI benefits:
