General Transfer Information

This is a transfer opportunity open only to current DWD employees serving in a permanent classified position. Individuals who are currently serving in an LTE or Project 05 appointment are not eligible to apply. In order to be considered for transfer, you must be in a position that is in the same or counterpart pay schedule/range as this position (please see the paragraph below for some examples of counterpart pay ranges).

Starting salary will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin compensation plan. A probationary period may be required. Employees currently serving a probation may be allowed to carry over time already served.

The list generated from this internal recruitment may be used if future vacancies occur in WDA 5 within the next six months.

Location

This position will be headquartered at the Brown County Job Center located at 301 North Adams Street in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Frequent travel to the Sheboygan job center, within Manitowoc County, and occasionally within WDA 5 is a requirement of the position. See the WDA map.

Position Summary

The counselor is responsible for providing professional vocational rehabilitation counseling support to consumers with disabilities. In doing so, the counselor participates on a team with other vocational rehabilitation professionals and provides direct assessment, evaluation, counseling, and guidance toward helping consumers achieve employment. Qualifications

This position requires a valid Professional Counselor license (LPC) or a Professional Counselor Training license (PCTL) issued by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services prior to effective date of hire.

To be eligible for the next step in the selection process, applicants must be eligible for transfer and meet one of the following two minimum requirements:

  1. Hold an active LPC/PCTL
    OR
  2. An applicant that does not currently and has never held a PCTL credential may also be considered if you meet all the following criteria:
    • You have started the application process for a PCTL credential with DSPS
    • Your application status on the DSPS site shows all criteria met or your only unmet criteria is Form 2456.
    • You submit your PAR # to confirm your application status.

Well qualified applicants will also have experience performing tasks related to the following:

  • Counseling and empowering clients/consumers to develop plans to meet their goals (ideally in the area of vocational rehabilitation programming).
  • Working in a team service environment.
  • Communicating effectively and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Managing caseloads and/or organizing and prioritizing tasks (e.g., recording case notes, completing forms, ensuring document compliance, etc.).
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments to determine clients/consumers' needs for services (e.g., using diagnostic tests/tools, labor market information, etc.).
  • Collaborating with external partners (e.g., employers, service providers, etc.) to guide and/or monitor the processes related to meeting client/consumer goals.
  • Applying principles of trauma informed care and multicultural sensitivity in counseling.

Special Requirement

Frequent travel within the WDA and occasional statewide travel is required.
