DWD Releases Short-Term Occupational Projections for 2018-2020

Occupations projected to grow the fastest include Personal Care and Service Occupations, Construction and Extraction Occupations

MADISON — The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) recently released the latest short-term occupational projections for the State of Wisconsin covering the 2018-2020 time-period. The projections are produced by DWD's Division of Employment and Training, Bureau of Workforce Information Services.

In brief, the following number of annual openings are projected in 2018-2020:

• 17,412 in Education, Training, and Library Occupations;
• 11,000 in Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations;
• 10,000 in Healthcare Support Occupations;
• 40,000 in Sales and Related Occupations;
• 15,000 in Construction and Extraction Occupations;
• 12,500 in Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations; and
• 38,000 in Production Occupations.

Wisconsin is projected to have over 389,000 total annual openings throughout the projection period.

Occupational projections are an important resource for DWD and its stakeholders. Students, job seekers, and counselors may use the projections to explore employment in occupations and industries. DWD and educational institutions may use occupational projections to evaluate and tailor its workforce training, degree and/or course offerings. Researchers may use the data in analyses of Wisconsin's labor market. Employers may use the data to examine expected employment in industries and occupations.
