Re-Employment Services (RES) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is Re-employment Services (RES) a requirement for UI benefits?

  • If you are a UI claimant who is legally required to perform a weekly work search, Re-Employment Services (RES) allows us to assess your job search needs through an "early intervention" process and provide targeted services to assist you in returning to work more quickly. In addition, UI claimants who are legally required to perform a weekly work search must participate in Re-employment Services (RES) to meet federal and state requirements.

What are the steps required to complete Re-employment Services (RES)?

  • At the time you complete your UI initial claim and if you are required to perform a weekly work search, you are currently required to register for work online at jobcenterofwisconsin.com and complete all required activities, including the following:
    • Step 1. Complete the online registration for work jobcenterofwisconsin.com. Currently, all UI claimants required to look for work must be fully registered and complete a job match profile.
    • Step 2. After receiving your first UI benefit payment, you will be required to complete a RES online orientation and assessment to determine the services you must complete. You will need to complete both the online orientation and assessment within 14 calendar days from the mail date on your RES letter. Failure to complete these will result in a suspension of UI benefits until your requirement is fulfilled completely.
    • Step 3. Based on the outcome of your RES assessment, you may be required to complete additional services to continue receiving UI benefit payments. Check your My JCW page or your Unemployment Online Benefit Services page for a listing of your next required step. Services may include in-person sessions or completion of one or more of our new online workshops, which can be completed from any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection.
    • Step 4. If you are required to complete one or more online RES workshops, you must complete all required workshops within 14 calendar days from the time you completed the assessment online. Failure to complete these will result in a suspension of UI benefits until your requirement is fulfilled completely.
    • Step 5. If you are required to attend an in-person RES session, you must both schedule and attend the session at one of our Job Center locations within 21 calendar days from the time you completed the online assessment. Our system now allows you to choose the time and location that best fits your schedule. To schedule a RES session online, go to My JCW. Failure to complete these within the 21 calendar days will result in suspension of UI benefits until your requirement is fulfilled completely.

How do I know what step is next in the Re-employment Services (RES) process?

  • You will see an online notification telling you the next required step in the process prior to completing the RES assessment and once you have successfully logged on to either your My JCW page or to your Unemployment Online Benefit Services page.

What happens if I can't complete the online Re-employment Services (RES) requirement by the due date?

  • Call the Job Service call center at 888-258-9966 PRIOR to the due date of your next requirement expiring. An agent will assess your situation on a case by case basis. Your UI benefit payments will be suspended if you do not complete the requirement and fail to contact the Job Service Center.
