November: NSC Autumn Safety, Flu, Halloween, Daylight Saving Time, Night Driving, Thanksgiving and Holiday Fire Safety

Hello everyone,

Welcome back to Safety Corner, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Division of Worker's Compensation (DWD/WC) safety blog! I use this forum to share some of the current, pertinent safety news and information that I receive from my network of workplace safety professionals and pass along to employers across Wisconsin. Accordingly, I have several current thoughts on staying safe as we continue to navigate the year's COVID-19 "new normal" together.

As a famous Upper Midwest song writer once wrote and sang, "The Times They Are a Changing" (as well as the temperatures) as we move into autumn. Don't forget to change, set back your clocks 1 hour this Halloween weekend at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 1. I encourage you to visit our National Safety Council (NSC) partner's seasonal Autumn web site topics:

Also, as we close out National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) October Safety Week/Month, don't let your home fire safety guard down. The holidays hold the potential for increased kitchen and winter space heater, fireplace use and with them their potential fire dangers. Read more online.

Also, be weary of Thanksgiving turkey deep frying hazards. The NFPA strongly discourages the use of turkey fryers. For more safety tips and information on safe cooking visit:

As a look ahead, remember that we will be moving into the post-Thanksgiving holiday season. More to follow as we approach December and the Wisconsin winter months.

Have a Safe Day, Always!!
