Every month the Office of Veteran Employment Services (OVES) will be sharing stories of individuals that have successfully found careers through our services. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Representative (DVOP) provide the intensive services necessary to meet the employment needs of Veterans who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, disabled, homeless, or facing other significant barriers to employment. - A low income veteran accepted a Housekeeping position at VAMC Milwaukee with starting pay of $14.24 per hour. DVOP staff provided job search and development and assistance with mock interviewing.
- A veteran with a significant barrier to employment had received two interviews while attending a job fair. The veteran was offered a position at a local restoration company as a Carpenter/Handyman earning $17.50 per hour plus health benefits and 401k contributions. He is awaiting final pre-employment screening to be notified of an official start date.
- A recently released and low income veteran accepted a position as an IT Specialist at a flooring company earning $13.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided resume assistance, employer referrals, discussed education benefits and referred to the CVSO. The veteran is scheduled to start at Northcentral Technical College to finish his IT degree in August. His salary will increase with his education and experience level.
- A near homeless veteran was offered an OTR Driver position in Menomonee Falls earning $34,000 per year. DVOP staff provided assistance with his resume and conducted mock interviews and provided job leads. The veteran is very excited about the opportunity as it will give him the ability to earn a comfortable income and find a place to reside.
- A special disabled and near homeless veteran was offered a position with a foods distributor as an Order Selector earning $16.00 per hour. DVOP staff assisted the veteran with job development, resume development and assisted with job search and placement.
- A special disabled veteran accepted a position at a grocery store as a Janitor in Sparta earning $13.76 per hour. DVOP staff worked with the veteran to make job referrals for open positions.
- An unemployed and low income veteran was offered and accepted a Security Supervisor position making $18.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided job leads and interview skills development services.
- A homeless veteran was offered and received a Truck Driver position making $12.00 per hour in the Oshkosh, WI area. DVOP staff provided a comprehensive assessment, individual employment plan, individual counseling/career planning, case management, and resume development.
- A low income and in danger of homelessness veteran was offered and accepted a Sales Associate position making $10.30 per hour with a local sportswear retailer. The veteran has also received rental assistance through the Man of Honor Society in order to gain dependable housing. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, information on emergency services, Badger Care, HUD-VASH, the Man of Honor Society, food share, and contacted a local Church for a gas voucher.
- A Chapter 31 veteran was offered and accepted a Veterans Certifying Official position with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville making $15.41 per hour plus benefits. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, and job search and placement assistance.
- A low-income veteran was offered and accepted a Driver position making $15.00 per hour with a transport company in Stoddard, WI. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, and job referrals.
- A low income veteran meeting WIOA income requirements was offered and accepted a Security Officer position making $16.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided resume development, job search assistance, and job development.
- A low income veteran meeting WIOA income requirements was offered and accepted a position as an Automobile Sales Person making $22,000 per year plus commission. DVOP staff provided resume development and interview skills assistance.
- An unemployed and low income by WIOA standards veteran was offered and accepted an LPN position with and nursing home in Green Bay, WI. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, and job search assistance.
- An 18-24 year old and service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Coater/Winder position with a local coating company making $15.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided resume development, job referrals, veteran priority information, skill explorer, and referrals to other agencies.
- An 18-24 year old and low income veteran meeting WIOA requirements was offered and accepted a Human Resource Assistant position making $12.50 per hour. DVOP staff provided resume development, job referrals, case management, and job search and placement.
- A low-income veteran meeting WIOA requirements was offered and accepted a Plant Manager position making $55,000 per year at a packaging facility in Fall Creek, WI. DVOP staff provided case management, job referrals, career guidance, and resume development.
- A low income veteran meeting WIOA requirements was offered a Paralegal position making $20.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development and job and employer referrals.
- A recently separated service member and unemployed veteran was offered and accepted a Technical Writer position with a staffing agency starting at $17.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided job and employer referrals and resume development.
- A homeless veteran was offered and accepted a Punch Press Operator position making $14.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, and job referrals.
- A service-connected disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Warehouse Worker position in Milwaukee, WI making $15.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, and interview skills assistance.
- A low income veteran was offered and accepted a Service Manager position making $72,000 per year. DVOP staff provided job leads, resume development and mock interviewing.
- An unemployed and low income veteran was offered and accepted a Warehouse Manager position making $45,000 per year. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, employer referrals, and job search and placement assistance.
- A service-disabled veteran was offered and accepted a Storage and Warehouse Manager position making $55,000 per year. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job search tips, job referrals, and interview skills assistance.
- A recently separated and low income veteran was offered and accepted a position making $17.50 per hour with a building material manufacturer. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, and job search and placement assistance.
- A service-connected disabled and Chapter 31 veteran was offered and accepted an Owner/Freelance Photographer position making $3,000 per month plus benefits. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, and job search and placement assistance.
- A service-connected disabled, homeless, and previously incarcerated veteran was offered and accepted a Warehouse Associate position with Ashley Furniture Industries, Inc. making $13.85 per hour. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, and job search and placement assistance.
- A service-connected and Chapter 31 veteran was offered and accepted a Draftsman/Designer position making $38,000 per year plus benefits. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, and job search and placement assistance.
- A recently separated and unemployed veteran was offered and accepted a Payroll/ HR Clerk position with WKKBT News Station making $18.50 per hour. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, and job search and placement services.
- A low-income veteran was offered and accepted an Outdoor Recreation Specialist position at Fort McCoy, WI making $11.00 per hour. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, and job search and placement assistance.
- A recently separated and unemployed veteran was offered and accepted a Recruiter position with a local staffing agency making $35,000 per year plus benefits. DVOP staff provided case management, resume development, job referrals, and job search and placement assistance.
