Wisconsin Fast Forward Grants Available to Train, Certify Teachers for Dual Enrollment Programs

Opportunities target technical colleges that demonstrate need to train high school teachers to meet proposed new standards for dual enrollment

MADISON – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Ray Allen today announced up to $3 million in Wisconsin Fast Forward (WFF) grant funds to help Wisconsin technical colleges certify high school teachers to meet new dual enrollment standards./

"Governor Walker's Wisconsin Fast Forward program is making new training investments for high school teachers to ensure that innovative dual enrollment programs continue to prepare students for high-demand jobs in growing industries," Secretary Allen said. "Grant funding supports access to thriving school-to-work programs, enabling Wisconsin businesses to address skilled worker shortages and students to accelerate their transition into the workforce and reduce the cost of receiving a higher education."

Wisconsin high school students earn college credits while fulfilling high school graduation requirements through contracts between technical colleges with accredited dual enrollment programs and school districts. New program standards require technical colleges to match the quality and integrity of dual enrollment programs with credits offered at the institution, including the credentials of high school instructors who teach dual enrollment courses.

The grants are intended to reimburse technical colleges for activities related to the certification of high school teachers to provide dual enrollment program instruction at the applicable college level.

• Applicants: Wisconsin Technical Colleges
• Deadline to Apply: 3 p.m. on April 17, 2018
• Award Amount: $25,000 to $300,000

Under Governor Walker's leadership, Wisconsin has invested over $200 million over the past four years and over $140 million in the current biennial budget to support workforce development, including WFF program expansion funding to develop innovative training solutions to meet regional workforce demands.
