DWD Receives Additional Funding to Enhance Reemployment Program Infrastructure

Additional $250,000 will improve IT infrastructure between unemployment and reemployment programs

MADISON – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has been awarded an additional $257,123 in federal grant dollars to enhance the informational technology infrastructure for the state's Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) program. The enhancements will allow for more seamless communication between DWD's Unemployment Insurance (UI) and Employment and Training (DET) Divisions, which will help move individuals more quickly from unemployment to employment.

"These additional grant dollars will help DWD deliver services more effectively and efficiently," DWD Secretary-designee Caleb Frostman said. "Quickly connecting UI claimants to available opportunities is a core function of the department, and under Governor Evers, we are prioritizing transferrable skills that can move individuals across industries and into higher paying, family-supporting careers, which is the aim of the RESEA program."

The RESEA program identifies what level of services an individual on UI may require as they complete work search requirements and provides additional services and assistance to those who need it. The goal of RESEA is to utilize both online and in-person job seeker services to more quickly help an individual who is unemployed find employment. UI and DET work collaboratively to provide a formalized program to identify those job seekers who need additional support and connect them to services.

The divisions will use the grant funds to make IT system enhancements to improve reporting and data collection. These new reports will provide UI and DET additional data to improve quality assurance reviews and program evaluation. More information will allow the RESEA program staff to better determine what services result in the best outcomes for the different individuals receiving UI benefits and how to better serve customers.
