DWD Deputy Secretary Congratulates Project SEARCH Graduates from Sauk Prairie Healthcare Center, UW-Platteville
PRAIRIE DU SAC/PLATTEVILLE - Department of Workforce Development Deputy Secretary JoAnna Richard today delivered remarks at two ceremonies recognizing the latest classes of Project SEARCH graduates from the Sauk Prairie Healthcare Center and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. In total, fifteen graduates were recognized between the two sites. It was the first year for UW-Platteville hosting Project SEARCH interns, while the Sauk Prairie Healthcare Center completed their fourth year in the program.
"I would like to congratulate the fifteen young people that graduated from Project SEARCH today as they begin their career path with a strong foundation that positions them for a lifetime of success," Deputy Secretary Richard said. "Thank you to the parents and other family members, to UW-Platteville and Sauk Prairie Healthcare, the service providers, and all of the DWD staff who helped these individuals on their journey."
Project SEARCH is a business led collaboration that enables youth and young adults with disabilities to gain and maintain employment through training and career exploration in a hands-on work environment.
During their time in the program, participants reported five days a week to learn employability skills in a classroom and hands-on job skills within a business environment. Project SEARCH interns selected three or four rotations which allowed them to learn multiple functions of the business and use that experience when deciding on future career paths. Certified special education instructors and career coaches work together with interns and staff to problem solve and put the participants on the path to program success.
