DWD Visits Local Manufacturer in Hayward WI to Celebrate Manufacturing Month
Oct 7th is recognized as National Manufacturing Day across the nation
MADISON – Today, Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Assistant Deputy Secretary Dave Anderson visited Northwest Wisconsin to celebrate Wisconsin Manufacturing Month by joining area students at Concor Tool and Machine in Hayward. Governor Walker proclaimed October as the Manufacturing Month to highlight the high-quality, family-supporting jobs available in the manufacturing industry. Today's visit is in conjunction with National Manufacturing Day, recognized across the nation as October 7th, 2016.
"Manufacturing Month provides a great opportunity Wisconsin to highlight one of our state's greatest assets," Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson said. "Under Governor Walker's leadership, we are ensuring that our future workforce recognizes the benefits of a career in the manufacturing industry and that they have information and access to multiple career pathways such as Registered and Youth Apprenticeship."
On the tour, students heard from Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson about how much the manufacturing industry means to Wisconsin's economy, including how Wisconsin manufacturers produced more than $57 billion worth of output in 2015, accounting for 19% of the state’s gross domestic product. Also, manufacturing accounted for 94.4% of all Wisconsin exports in 2014, demonstrating a healthy worldwide demand for products and technologies created in the state.
Under Governor Walker's leadership, the DWD is coordinating the planning and promotion of many of the month's events in partnership with the Department of Revenue, Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Technical College System, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership, the University of Wisconsin-Stout Manufacturing Outreach Center and other stakeholders.
