DWD Secretary Meets with Young Professionals at Madison YPWeek Event

MADISON – Yesterday, Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Ray Allen visited Zendesk of Madison, a 2015 Bubbler Award winner, to highlight the importance of Millennials to the Wisconsin economy during a luncheon event for young professionals.

"Businesses throughout the state are looking for ways to recruit and retain young professionals for good-paying job opportunities that offer career advancement across all sectors of the economy," DWD Secretary Ray Allen said. "With YPWeek, we look forward to hearing from Millennials about how we can continue to develop talent and keep Wisconsin's economy moving forward."

Sponsored in part by Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), this week is known as YPWeek across Wisconsin in an effort to showcase what the state can offer young professionals in every sector of our economy. YPWeek seeks to engage young professionals in a discussion about the workforce as well as educate employers on the importance of recruiting and retaining young talent.

Every year, NEWaukee, a Milwaukee based young professional organization, hosts the Bubbler Awards: Best Workplaces for Young Professionals in Wisconsin as a kickoff to YPWeek. The Bubbler Award is designed to highlight employers that have the qualities that Millennials are seeking in today’s workplace: competitive salary and benefits, opportunity for advancement and employee and community engagement.

During yesterday's visit, Secretary Allen highlighted many positive indicators of Wisconsin's economy that young professionals should note, such as how Wisconsin's unemployment rate and labor force participation rate are both outpacing the national average, there are more than 80,000 job openings on JobCenterofWisconsin.com alone, and Wisconsin continues to add thousands of jobs year over year.
