Developing our Workforce: DWD Secretary Highlights Job Service Partnership at Milton High School Career Day

MADISON – Today, Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Ray Allen visited Milton High School to highlight a successful partnership between Job Service and the district which led to Career Day, a new program helping students become college and career ready with a focus on financial literacy.

"Partnerships like the one between DWD and the School District of Milton are essential to addressing our workforce needs and preparing the next generation of the workforce to know what skills they need in their career development," Secretary Allen said. "DWD is focused on ways we can inform our youth about the many in-demand career opportunities available to them right here in Wisconsin."

DWD staff at the Rock County Job Center and the Milton High School School-to-Career/Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator created this program to help students explore their interests and demonstrate how those interests can translate into a rewarding career.

At the event, Secretary Allen met with students as they heard from businesses, technical colleges and universities as well as Job Service staff. Workforce partners including over 60 employers, 30 higher education establishments, and DWD came together to provide the students with career connections that are the backbone of a strong, well-educated workforce.

DWD and the School District of Milton will host a job fair at Milton High School on April 26, 2016 for high school juniors and seniors. This structured job fair will allow students to connect with employers and match their interests and talents with potential career opportunities.
