DWD Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson Tours Superior Employer to Highlight Youth Apprenticeship

SUPERIOR – Today, Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Assistant Deputy Secretary Dave Anderson visited Cedar Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Superior to highlight Youth Apprenticeship (YA) as a talent development program being utilized to fulfill the employer's need for skilled workers. During his visit, Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson met with educators, mentors, and local workforce partners.

"Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship is a key talent development strategy that helps students transition from academics to the workforce while earning college credit, state skill certification, and real world, paid work experience," Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson said. "The collaboration involving Cedar Ridge and Superior-area partners is reflective of the innovative approaches we need across Wisconsin to support a well-trained workforce now and into the future."

Assistant Deputy Secretary Anderson's visit follows Career Development Month, which Governor Walker proclaimed for the month of November to raise awareness of programs like YA, career and technical education, career pathways and dual enrollment to help students, teachers, parents, counselors and others learn more about prospects for in-demand occupations.

This year, the Northwest Wisconsin Concentrated Employment Program, Inc.'s Youth Apprenticeship Consortium, which includes Cedar Ridge, has 15 enrollees with 16 employers across five program areas including Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources, Architecture & Construction, Finance, Health Services, and Hospitality, Lodging & Tourism.
