Secretary Newson, Superintendent Evers Recognize Career & Technical Education Month with Tour of WCTC Training Facilities
PEWAUKEE – Today, Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Reggie Newson and State Superintendent Tony Evers visited Waukesha County Technical College as part of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. Governor Walker proclaimed February as CTE Month to highlight CTE programs that provide lifelong skills and a head start towards promising careers.
"Career and technical education is an excellent pathway for high school students," Secretary Newson said. "Today, at WCTC, I met with high school students who are learning real world skills, all while gaining both high school and technical college credit. This experience will prepare them to enter the workforce with the skills they need to thrive."
Throughout the month, state leaders will showcase innovative school-to-work programs and the career opportunities for high school students who attend technical school for short-term training or a two-year degree.
At WCTC, Secretary Newson and Superintendent Evers joined school administrators, students and technical college instructors for tours of their metal fabrication, CNC and printing and publishing labs. At each lab, an instructor as well as a student involved in the program presented on the work being done this semester and spoke to the skills that were being learned.
