Central Wisconsin Career Expo Update: 50 Employers Registered, Nearly 575 Jobs Available; Employer Registration Deadline Friday

Job seekers urged to register for special recruiting event September 16 in Stevens Point

MADISON – With the Central Wisconsin Career Expo less than two weeks away, Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Reggie Newson said today that 50 employers with nearly 575 job openings have reserved space for September16 expo and he urged more employers to register before the deadline this Friday.

The Central Wisconsin career Expo at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Stevens Point is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 16. Job seekers are strongly encouraged to register in advance to benefit from Job Center staff assistance before the event and ensure immediate access when the expo doors open.

"We are encouraged by the response to date and we want more employers to take advantage of this special recruiting event," Secretary Newson said. "The event is the first DWD-sponsored career expo in the region, and it offers a great opportunity for job seekers and employers to connect. We want job seekers to register in advance, because our Job Center staff can help them prepare for the event by reviewing their resume and providing useful tips to see that they are job ready. Participating employers must demonstrate they have positions available. Like other career expos we've sponsored, this promises to be an excellent recruiting opportunity, a win-win for job seekers and employers."

Employers have until the end of the day Friday, September 5, to register and they can do so online at www.WisconsinCareerExpo.com. A list of registered employers also can be found at the site.

As with other career expos, the Central Wisconsin Career Expo model includes a quick and easy registration process for job seekers. Individuals meet with Job Service staff who review their resumes and help them take additional steps to prepare, including practicing for job interviews.

Interested job seekers are urged to pre-register. To do so, they must complete a simple registration process:

  1. Visit www.JobCenterofWisconsin.com, and register or update your information;
  2. Use the Job Seeker Tools on the site to create or update a resume and complete a self-assessment survey (be sure to print copies for the final step); and
  3. Complete a work readiness session with an employment specialist at a local Job Center to review the resume and self-assessment survey, review steps in the job application process, and receive an admission ticket. Work readiness sessions are available during regular Job Center hours now through Monday, September 15.

The first DWD sponsored career expo was the Milwaukee Manufacturing Career Expo held at State Fair Park in May 2012. Earlier this year, the Fox Valley Career Expo was held in Appleton. For more information: www.WisconsinCareerExpo.com
