Effective Date

February 17th, 2017

This Replaces

All previous activity codes, new technical specifications for Systematic Instruction, Supported Employment and Customized Employment.

What are the Changes?

Activity Codes

Beginning February 17, 2017 activity codes in IRIS will be changed to reflect services for Supported Employment, Customized Employment, Individual Placement & Support (IPS), and Systematic Instruction.

New authorizations and purchase orders

For Supported Employment, Customized Employment and Individual Placement & Support (IPS) will require the new activity codes. Services authorized prior to February 17 using old codes, do NOT need to be changed; services may continue as authorized.

New Technical Specifications

For Supported Employment, Customized Employment, and Systematic Instruction are to be used beginning February 17.

Services Ending

Job Coaching services will no longer be available, they are replaced with Systematic Instruction services.

Why is this change being made?

DVR is implementing revised services for Supported Employment, new services for Customized Employment, and replacing Job Coaching with Systematic Instruction. These changes were in progress prior to the passing of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), however, WIOA requirements do reinforce the need for a more effective and improved approach to service provision to our consumers with the most significant disabilities. Service providers have been made aware these changes would become effective March 1, 2017. They will now be notified of the changes effective February 17.

There are many aspects to implementing these changes before the proposed March 1 implementation date. This includes training, IRIS changes, and creating resource materials to name a few. Efforts are being made to coordinate the changes in a way that is accommodating to staff and service providers, however changes will go into effect before all staff can be properly trained. As a result, some DVR staff will need to authorize the new services prior to attending in-person training.

WDA 9, 7, and 2 staff that did not attend the service provider training last fall, and will not have staff training prior to the code changes in IRIS effective February 17, 2017, may attend training at one of the other WDA trainings being held prior to February 17. Please obtain approval from your director as well as the director of the other WDA.

Questions have come up as to why service providers were trained on the Supported Employment changes prior to DVR staff. The service changes are substantial and service providers needed to make an informed choice about continuing their service agreement with DVR. They were required to make that decision by February 1. Due to all of the requirements to implement WIOA and limited resources to work on them, staff training could not be provided until February.

If you have any questions regarding this update, please consult with your WDA director or supervisor.
