Subject - Existing Business Policy - Implementation Reminders

As you are aware, DVR's new Existing Business Policy became effective on April 1, 2016. In a meeting last week with farm advocates, we learned that some farmers feel the policy means that DVR will no longer provide services to them. This is not the intent of the policy. There are services which can be offered to farmers that are unrelated to the purchase of assistive technology.  To help emphasize that, please remember these important items when applying the new Existing Business Policy:

  1. Farmers seeking DVR services should be served in the same manner as any other applicant for DVR services.
  2. It is important that staff honor the VR case process through referral, eligibility and OOS determination prior to any IPE development considerations including discussions around the purchase of assistive technology.
  3. The appropriate application of the Existing Business policy is under the IPE Development phase of the DVR case process.
  4. The new Existing Business Policy applies only to consumers that enrolled in DVR after April 1, 2016.

DVR will be creating a simple process flow chart for existing business consumers that will take them through the DVR process from referral to closure. We hope this tool will be helpful for consumers to understand the entire process.

Please contact the PA mailbox dvrpolicyanalysts@dwd.wisconsin.gov with specific policy questions and as always consult with your supervisor for support and guidance.
