Subject - Transportation Guidance Updated - Effective December 1, 2015

The DVR Transportation Guidance has been revised and a resource tool for each WDA to use for local transportation options was developed.  Several updates have been made including:

How to use and exploration of existing resources to meet an individual's transportation needs.

This Replaces

All previous versions of Transportation Guidance.

Why is this change being made?

Every person has a need for transportation; DVR will assist in identifying strategies to use existing resources and provide assistive technology or other services to address disability related transportation needs. Previous information did not emphasize use of guidance and counseling along with planning and problem solving with consumers to identify and use existing transportation resources.

Action Required

All DVR processes and the provision of services to DVR consumers should align with the new policy.

Services previously identified in an IPE can be provided including the purchase of vehicles assuming all aspects of previous guidance and directives have been followed. Use of the exception process is required.

All DVR staff must review the updated policy and share the information with DVR consumers and other stakeholders as necessary.

Please consult with your WDA Director or VR Supervisor if you have questions related to the policy update or specific consumer needs not addressed.

A Study Hall is planned for 11/23 and 11/24 to review the policy and demonstrate use of new resources.
