Electric Line Technician

Electric line technicians work for contractors, public utilities, municipal utilities, electric cooperatives, and electric transmission companies, installing poles, towers, wires, and cables. They use power equipment to dig holes for installing poles and towers, and for digging trenches to install underground cables and wire. They climb poles and towers or use truck-mounted buckets to connect wires, install transformers and perform maintenance on street light systems, electrical distribution, and high voltage transmission lines. These technicians may also build substations, install circuit breakers, switches, and other equipment required to provide electric service to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Students must have a Commercial Motor Vehicle's Certificate by the completion of the Electric Line Technician program in order to receive their certificate. Students can enter the program with a CDL license or complete a CDL program during their time as an Electric Line Technician student.

This program is offered

Rolling application. To start in the Fall Semester, students can no longer be added to semester courses past the Add/Drop deadline.
This certificate can lead towards an apprenticeship then followed to training to journeyman status.
As companies contact GCC in searching for employees to hire, it is shared with students throughout the year.
Tutoring is available as needed.

Other fees : Student Services and Access Fee All Books, Supplies/Materials are included in the Tuition and Required Fees cost. If a student needs to also complete the CDL program, the Total Cost is $15,004.00.
