Community Health & Nutrition Navigator

A community health and nutrition navigator is a frontline public health worker who, as a trusted member of the community, serves as a liaison to connect people to medical providers and community resources for health and nutrition needs. There is a need for frontline health workers with expertise and experience in assisting individuals and communities to navigate complex healthcare systems. Upon completion of this 61-credit program, students will receive an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Courses include 19 credits of health credits, 15 credits of general education, 9 credits of public/community health credits, 11 credits of nutrition/dietetics, 5 credits of experiential practice within a community setting, 2 credits of electives. The CHNN program is embedded within MATC's healthcare pathway, which includes high-quality healthcare programs, including nursing, dental hygiene, surgical technologist, pharmacy technician and more. They are designed to prepare career-ready graduates who care for everyone in our community with empathy and excellence. As the largest pathway at MATC, it has strong leadership and infrastructure and is guided by requirements of the Wisconsin Technical College System.
CHNN program is designed to be responsive to community needs. Courses feature frequent guest speakers from community-serving agencies throughout Milwaukee. In the final semesters, CHNN students complete two field placement/experiential practices where they learn on-site in community organizations for a total of 238 hours (96 hours in one course, 144 hours in the other). The programs Community Advisory Board is composed of leaders from throughout the community who guide the program, ensure it is responsive to community needs, and serve as champions of the program and its students/graduates.

Tutoring is available from 8AM to 8PM, Monday thru Friday.

MAKING SENSE OF THE EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES:

"Average quarterly wages" means the total wages earned in a three-month period by all students who completed the program ("completers"), divided by the total number of completers.

"Median quarterly wages" means all the completers' quarterly wages are placed in order from lowest to highest and then we identify the student's wages in the middle. This information is provided because averages can be greatly influenced by really high and low wage earners.

To estimate monthly wages, divide the quarterly wages by three.
