The first 60 hours occur over four weeks with ten 3-hour online live learning sessions, as well as two back-to-back 2-day in-person sessions at the Institute. The last 40 hours take place at the skilled nursing facility where you work. Show More

This class is a hybrid format with a blend of online live learning and in-person instruction. • You must be listed on the State of Wisconsin CNA Registry as eligible to work in federally certified healthcare settings. • You must have at least 2,000 hours of experience as a CNA in direct patient care within the last three years in a skilled nursing facility / nursing home. If your CNA work experience includes skilled nursing facility and other healthcare settings, you might be able to apply for a waiver through the State to take the medication aide class. • Within the last 90 days, you must have worked a minimum of 40 hours as a CNA in the skilled nursing facility. • You must provide written verification from your employer of both the 2,000 hours and 40 hours worked requirement. • You must provide four written letters of recommendation (1 from the Administrator, 1 from the DON, and 2 from other RNs)

This program is offered

Medication Aide classes are offered through the Healthcare Workforce Training Institute every 5 - 6 weeks, which means that students can sign-up for whichever class works best for them. As this is a hybrid course, students should be sure to investigate which in-person location will work best for them prior to registering for the class.
Often the first step in a healthcare career is to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). Once this has been accomplished, taking the Medication Aide course is the next upskilled step in the field of long-term care. As a participant in the Medication Aide class students learn skills and knowledge that will help them continue their education to become licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and/or registered nurses (RNs).

The cost of the Medication Aide class is $1,050, which includes all textbooks, printed materials, and on-site certification testing, if within 60 miles of the HWTI's Eau Claire Education Center. If beyond 60 miles, additional travel expenses may apply.
Refunds may be requested in writing up to 10 days prior to the first day of class. There is a 10% administrative fee for all refunds.
