The Family and Consumer Sciences Education Instruction program will prepare you to teach in family and consumer science programs at various educational levels. You’ll be ready to teach occupational, vocational and educational subjects to students at the middle and secondary school levels. The array of learning opportunities includes baking, culinary and hospitality in addition to interior design. Child development, behavior management and student support techniques are also covered culminating with practicum experiences in the K12 setting. An academic skills assessment is required for admission into this program or the following: High School GPA of 2.75 or higher (last 10 years) OR provide completion of associate’s or higher degree OR; 165 or higher on your 2014 series GED tests OR; ACT OR SAT OR Accuplacer OR Companion OR Compass (last 3 years) to waive to the general education level; The cost of the Accuplacer assessment is $15; Catalog #: 94100100; Learn more at www.fvtc.edu/Assessment.

A program that requires its students to demonstrate they have successfully acquired a set of skills or knowledge base prior to completing the program. Compare to a "time-based" training program that results in successful completion if the students participate in a certain number of instructional hours.
