The need for qualified professional legal interpreters continues to increase in WI and throughout the country. With over 55 different languages used in Wisconsin courts, well-trained interpreters who possess the knowledge, skills and abilities required to work in this specialized area within our courts and other legal environments are in demand. The Legal Interpreting Certificate program is designed to help you develop and enhance your capabilities as a professional interpreter for work within legal settings. This live online/in-person training program is comprised of seven courses that run over a 12-month period for a total of 280 interactive hours. Work with the instructor, Debra Gorra Barash, and a cohort of 20 participants (sign language and spoken language interpreters being trained together) to achieve the benefits of language and cultural education and exchange. Preparation for legal Wisconsin interpreting certification exam to become a certified Wisconsin Court Interpreter.

Parking or bus pass for the two weeks of in-person class.
If a participant withdraws less than 10 business days prior to the program start, a one-time transfer of fees to any currently available program is allowed; otherwise, the participant will receive a refund minus a 20% administrative fee. No refund will be given once a program has begun. For on-demand online programs without a specified start date, no refund will be issued once a participant has accessed the online learning environment.

PLEASE NOTE:

If there are fewer than eight enrollments in the training program, only the "Enrollments" number will be displayed; all other data is hidden in order to help protect the students' identities. The "Employment Outcomes" are calculated using information from Wisconsin's Unemployment Insurance Wage database. Most employers are required to report certain employment information to the State of Wisconsin, including quarterly wage information for their employees. Students whose information could not be verified in this database are excluded from these outcomes. If a "0" shows for any of these outcomes, it means that none of the students' information could be verified.

MAKING SENSE OF THE EMPLOYMENT OUTCOMES:

"Average quarterly wages" means the total wages earned in a three-month period by all students who completed the program ("completers"), divided by the total number of completers.

"Median quarterly wages" means all the completers' quarterly wages are placed in order from lowest to highest and then we identify the student's wages in the middle. This information is provided because averages can be greatly influenced by really high and low wage earners.

To estimate monthly wages, divide the quarterly wages by three.
