This program provides training in medical assisting fundamentals, professional behavior, legal and ethical standards, effective communication, and patient interaction management. The medical billing and coding curriculum emphasizes HIPAA compliance, official coding guidelines, third-party payer requirements, and all phases of the revenue cycle, from patient registration to reimbursement and collections. Students also learn medical terminology through the study of word parts and human body systems. Upon completion, students are prepared to sit for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and receive an exam voucher. Students also receive a voucher for one billing and coding certification exam (CPC, CCA, or CBCS), subject to provider and location requirements. WIOA-funded students must obtain approval before using the medical terminology test-out option. Show More
