What am I responsible for in the YA program?

- Participate in mentor training session
- Interview and hire YA student(s)
- Provide on the job training to YA student(s)
- Pay YA student(s)
- Participate in regular Progress Reviews
- Ensure 450 hours per year of worksite training/work hours
- Comply with child labor laws

- Incorporate YA Learning Objectives into Related Technical Instruction class
- Integrate YA Program classroom learning with worksite training
- Teach class
- Assess and grade YA student’s class work
- Participate in regular Progress Reviews, if applicable
- Provide YA Coordinator feedback from YA students regarding classroom and YA learning
- Parents
- assist the youth apprentice in meeting the academic and
attendance requirements of the program;
- ensure transportation to and from the work site is provided; and
- participate in progress reviews scheduled with mentors school
personnel and the youth apprentice

- Market YA program to parents, students, employers and the community
- Recruit students
- Coordinate student enrollment
- Integrate YA Program classroom and worksite training into student’s education program
- Ensure 450 hours per year of worksite hours and 180 hours of Related Technical
classroom instruction for each year
- Participate in regular Progress Reviews
- Ensure student is on track for graduation
- Grant high school graduation credit

- Obtain approval from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) to operate a YA Program
- Secure funding
- Form and manage steering committee
- Recruit local businesses to hire YA students
- Recruit and select YA students
- Provide employer mentor training
- Arrange for Related Technical Instruction
- Market YA program to parents, students, employers and the community
- Visit and maintain commitment with participating high schools, technical colleges, and local businesses
- Maintain a YA grievance procedure
- Submit required forms and reports to DWD
- Develop policies and procedures for the local YA program
