How is the YA program administered?
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Administration:
DWD provides statewide YA program oversight by:
- Establishing guidelines and standards
- Issuing requests for proposal (RFP) to distribute YA funding
- Approving local YA program applications
- Partnering with industry leaders to develop new YA areas
- Approving statewide YA program curriculum
- Assisting and monitoring local YA programs
- Issuing certificates for YA program completion
Local Administration:
- YA programs must be administered by a local consortium of partners representing school districts, technical colleges, employers, and organized labor
- Local consortia may be led by any of the partners as long as they approved by DWD to operate a YA program
- Local consortia provide local YA program oversight by:
- Form and manage steering committee
- Establishing local boundaries for the Local YA program
- Selecting YA program areas to offer
- Submitting applications for funding
- Hiring or designating a local YA Coordinator
- Recruiting local businesses to hire YA students
- Marketing the YA program to parents, students, employers and the community
