Worker’s Compensation is a benefit program that pays for medical treatment and wages lost due to injuries or illnesses that happen at work.
The Division of Worker’s Compensation administers the worker’s compensation law for the State of Wisconsin. The program is based on the concept that employers have an obligation to compensate injured workers for temporary and permanent disability for injuries resulting from their employment, to return them to employment as soon as practical, and to pay all reasonable health care bills related to the injury.
The Worker's Compensation Division ensures the prompt payment of benefits by private insurance companies and self-insured employers to workers who sustain work-related injuries or illnesses, resolves appeals regarding claims.
Division staff manage the worker's compensation claims program, provide assistance to claimants, set permanent disability ratings for claimants, monitor accuracy and promptness of payments, health cost disputes and return-to-work programs.
Division Attorneys conduct formal administrative hearings to resolve disputed claims between claimants and employers.
