On July 22, 2010, President Obama signed into law legislation that continues federal Unemployment Insurance (UI) extensions through November 2010 and provides retroactive payments for eligible claimants back to June 2, 2010.
The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) began processing payments within hours of the President’s signature on June 22nd in order to ensure that eligible claimants receive their benefits as soon as possible. All eligible checks were processed by July 30th.
It appears that Wisconsin was one of the fastest states in the nation to start – and to finish – processing these “catch up,” or retroactive, payments. That speedy processing helps our state’s workers during these challenging times, given the national economy.
The $25 extra payment is no longer available for those who established a new regular Unemployment Insurance claim for benefits after May 30, due to the provisions of the federal legislation. The $25 payment remains available for individuals who established their claims before May 30th.
