The Fox Valley region is composed
of seven counties in the East Central area of Wisconsin: Calumet,
Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Outagamie, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago. Two of these seven counties
(Outagamie & Calumet) comprise the
Appleton metropolitan statistical area (MSA). The
Fond du Lac MSA (Fond du Lac County) and Oshkosh-Neenah MSA
(Winnebago County) are the other two MSAs located in the Fox Valley.
- The seven-county region has a combined land area of 3,853 square miles, seven percent of Wisconsin's total land area and a combined water area 316 square miles, three percent of the statewide total water area.
- The Fox Valley's population estimate for 2006 was 580,923, ten percent of Wisconsin's total population.
- The population density for the region is approximately 151 people per square mile.
- In 2006 the WDA's labor force consisted of 322,703 participants (10.5% of Wisconsin's force) with 307,679 employed.
- The annual unemployment rate for the region in 2006 was 4.7 percent, mirroring the statewide annual rate.
- The annual average number of jobs in the Fox Valley was 284,443 in 2006. Manufacturing is the region's largest employment sector at approximately 23 percent of the total job base.
- The 2006 annual average wage paid by employers in the region was $35,530 or $1,300 less than the statewide annual average.
- Fox Valley's per capita personal income in 2005 was $32,322 or $956 less than Wisconsin.
- Fox Valley's total job base of 284,443 compared to Wisconsin's total job base of 2,764,813 is distributed as follows:
