Mission Statement

"To improve the quality of child care and give parents the information they need to make a more informed choice, the Doyle Administration will launch "Quality Counts” – a program that will, for the first time, rate the quality of child care providers. Currently, too few incentives exist for child care providers to go above and beyond the basic standards of quality required to be certified or licensed. Parents often have little information to go on when making important choices about which child care center is best for their child. Under the "Quality Counts” program, parents will know more than just whether a provider is certified or licensed. Providers will be inspected by a trained professional and rated on a scale measuring a wide range of factors that affect the quality of child care. Working with the child care community, the administration will develop criteria that will range from staff training, recruitment, and retention to violations of state standards. Child care providers will be given a number of "stars” based on their overall performance.”
