$444,961 Industry Partnership training grant awarded in Milwaukee

Governor Doyle, along with DWD Secretary Roberta Gassman, awarded a $444,961 Training and Partnership Support Award to the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB). MAWIB is partnering with WRTP/BIG STEP to train workers from five different trades (Sheet Metal, Bricklayers, Laborers, Carpenters and Painters) as each segment has been impacted by the growth in the green economy and needs to re-train for specific skills to meet growing demands for skilled workers with green certifications.

The training that will be delivered uses the Entry Level Construction Skills certification, which is stratified across 4 levels and adaptable to meet specific employer needs. Each of the unions and their signatory employers have committed to train an equal number of workers as are trained through the grant funding. In total, the collaborating partners will train and place, retain or advance 345 workers.
