Frequently Asked Questions About the Safe-Lifting Initiative Demonstration Grants

While the grant application process happened in 2006, the following questions were asked during that process.

  1. Who is the actual applicant for the grant?
  2. There should be a joint application submitted by an eligible health care provider (as defined on page 2 of the guidelines) and a Workforce Development Board (as defined on page 3 in administrative and partner requirements.)  Consortia applications will be considered if all health care providers meet the eligibility requirements.

  3. How many projects will be funded?
  4. The guidelines say there is $325,000 available to fund 10-12 projects at a maximum of $25,000 per project.  That would mean that at least 13 projects might be funded. Yes, a minimum of 13 projects could potentially be funded.  The guidelines have been revised to reflect this.

  5. Please clarify the matchrequirement.  Is the requirement a 50% match, meaning only $12,500 per $25,000 project – or should the match amount actually be 50% of the project which would actually be a 100% match, i.e. $25,000 funding and a $25,000 match?n

  6. The match should be 50% of the project so in fact a 100% match.  The guidelines have been revised to reflect this.
  7. When calculating employee wages for training costs, should fringe benefits be included?

For the sake of keeping it simple, use only hourly wage.

  8. What is the time period for the grant?
  9. The guidelines just say a one year period from when the grant is signed.Ideally we would like to have the grants run from July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007, which coincides with the funding program year.  However, if there are any delays in finalizing the grants, we will allow them to run for a full year from the date the grant is signed.
