Occupational Titles Beginning with Letter E
Installs, assembles, constructs and repairs electrical work within the property lines of any given property. This work normally begins at the secondary site of a transformer when such transformer is furnished by a local utility and the service conductors are installed underground. When service conductors are installed overhead, in open air from wooden or metal poles, this work shall start immediately after the first point of attachment to the building or structure. Electrical work does not include work which is incidental to the installation of elevators, escalators and similar equipment.
Plans and lays out electrical systems that provide power and lighting to buildings and structures. This includes cathodic protection systems utilized to protect structural steel in buildings and structures. Welds, burns, brazes, bends, drills and shapes all copper, silver, aluminum, angle iron and brackets to be used in connection with the installation and erection of electrical wiring and equipment. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, forms, assembles and installs all electrical raceways (conduit, wireway or cable tray) using tools such as hacksaw, pipe threader, power saw and conduit bender. Installs wire in raceways (conduit, wireway, troughs or cable trays). This wire may be service conductors, feeder wiring, subfeeder wiring, branch circuit wiring or other wiring systems recognized by the National Electrical Code, except as provided below. Installs all chasing and channeling necessary to complete any electrical work, including the fabrication and installation of duct banks and manholes incidental to electrical, electronic, data, fiber optic and telecommunication installation. Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads with knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together and applying tape or terminal caps. Installs and modifies lighting fixtures. Installs and modifies all electrical and/or fiber optic equipment (AC-DC motors, variable frequency drives, transformers, reactors, capacitors, motor generators, emergency generators, UPS equipment, data processing systems and annunciator systems where sound is not a part thereof). Installs raceway systems utilizing conduit, conduit bodies, junction boxes or divice boxes for switches and receptacles. This also may include wiring systems utilizing other methods and materials approved by the National Electrical Code (MC cable, AC cable, BX or flexible metal tubing or electrical nonmetallic tubing). Installs main service equipment, distribution panels, subpanels, branch circuit panels, motor starters, disconnect switches and all other related items. Installs wiring of electrically or fiber optic operated fire and smoke detection systems. May install conduit or other raceway when used for fire alarm systems, security systems, closed circuit television systems or cable television systems. Tests continuity of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components. This includes the installation, inspection and testing of all grounding systems including those systems designed for lightning protection. Removes electrical systems, fixtures, conduit, wiring, equipment, equipment supports or materials involved in the transmission and distribution of electricity within the parameters of the property line of any given property if reuse of any of the existing electrical system is to be regained. May install, alter and repair highway and street lighting, traffic signal systems, athletic field lighting systems and airport runway and taxiway lighting systems. May perform the digging of trenches for underground electrical work when done by means of power equipment.
Assembles and installs electric, hydraulic or chain driven freight and passenger elevators, escalators, dumbwaiters, moving walks, ramps and chairlifts.
Lays out location of framework, counterbalance rails, motor pump, cylinder and plunger foundations. Drills holes in concrete or structural steel members with portable electric drill. Secures anchor bolts. Welds brackets to support rails and framework and verifies alignment with plumb bob and level. Cuts prefabricated sections of framework, rails and other elevator components to specified dimensions using acetylene torch, power saw and disk grinder. Installs cables, counterwieghts, pumps, motor foundations, escalator drives, guide rails, elevator cars and control panels using handtools. Connects electrical wiring to control panels and electric motors. Installs safety and control devices. Positions electric motor and equipment on top of elevator shaft using hoists and cable slings. Erects and assembles theatre stage and curtain equipment and guides or rigging including organ consoles and orchestra elevators. Installs all wiring, conduit and raceways from the first point of attachment of main feeder terminals on elevator enclosures, fronts, facias, sills, frames and bucks. May perform the demolition of elevators, escalators and similar equipment. May sink, bore, drill or dig cylinder wells.
