All out-of-school youth must be assessed for basic skills proficiency. Workforce Development Boards are required to use one of the following tests when assessing out-of-school youth for basic literacy and math skills.
Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) assesses basic, reading, math, listening, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills. www.casas.org
Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) assesses basic reading, math, and language skills, as well as including spelling, vocabulary, and language mechanics tests. www.ctb.com
Wonderlic assesses basic verbal and math skills. www.wonderlic.com
WorkKeys assesses workplace skills in math, reading, listening, locating information, teamwork, writing, observation, and applied technology. www.act.org/workkeys
Massachusetts Adult Proficiency Test (MAPT) assesses reading and math. www.sabes.org/assessment/mapt.htm
If an out-of-school youth has English as a Second Language (ESL), WDBs are required to use one of the following tests.
Basic English Skills Test (BEST) Plus assesses interpersonal communication skills. www.cal.org/bestplus
