Over 3,200 Jobs, 125 Registered Employers Attend the Milwaukee Career Expo

WEST ALLIS – Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Deputy Secretary Georgia Maxwell today visited the Milwaukee Career Expo at the Wisconsin State Fair Park – Expo Center to greet over 660 job seekers and 125 employers with more than 3,200 local job openings.

"It is great to see so many local businesses connect with qualified job seekers at the Milwaukee Career Expo." Deputy Secretary Maxwell said. "I encourage all job seekers who were unable to attend the event to visit JobCenterofWisconsin.com or their local job center to learn more about the exciting job opportunities that may still be available."

Unlike most traditional job fairs, Career Expos are open only to employers with current job openings and job seekers who are pre-screened for work readiness in advance. More than 20 workforce partner agencies assisted with helping prepare job seekers for the event, as well as offered employment and training resources onsite.

Registered businesses included Aurora Health Care, Briggs & Stratton, FedEx Ground, Froedtert Health, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Marcus Hotels & Resorts, Quad/Graphics, Rockwell Automation and Spectrum.

The local manufacturing industry had strong event participation, including 25 manufacturers and 7 staffing agencies representing nearly 850 jobs openings with a hiring wage range of $15 - $19.60/hour.

"We like seeing excitement from motivated candidates at the Milwaukee Career Expo," said Liliana Zuniga, human resources manager at Stainless Foundry & Engineering, Inc. "This event was well organized and having a pre-screening process for job seekers is beneficial."

DWD has partnered with Employ Milwaukee to coordinate the Milwaukee Career Expo for the three consecutive years, providing businesses and workforce talent with added value through stronger connections to employers that are ready to hire qualified individuals for posted job openings.

“The Career Expo is a great opportunity for job seekers to explore careers across industry sectors. For anyone looking for a job or to change careers, this is an excellent opportunity to meet company representatives from a wide range of industries, including hospitality, construction, healthcare, IT, manufacturing, finance, customer service and more. I would like to thank the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development for partnering with Employ Milwaukee on this great event, which directly connects workforce supply and demand. I look forward to hearing the many stories of success as a result of this event,” said Earl Buford, Employ Milwaukee President and CEO.

The Milwaukee Career Expo opened with job seeker attendance limited to U.S. military veterans at 10:30 a.m. General admission ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
