Secretary Newson Announces Plans for Central Wisconsin Career Expo

Urges employers with job openings and job seekers to register for Sept. 16 event in Stevens Point

MADISON – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Reggie Newson today encouraged job seekers and employers with job openings to sign up for the Central Wisconsin Career Expo, which will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. September 16 at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Stevens Point.

"The Central Wisconsin Career Expo, our first in the region, is a great opportunity for job seekers and employers to connect," Secretary Newson said. "By requiring job seekers to register in advance, we and our workforce partners can review their resume and help them prepare to meet employers. In addition, participating employers must demonstrate they have job openings to fill. Career expos offer an excellent recruiting opportunity and are a win-win for job seekers and employers."

The first DWD sponsored career expo was the Milwaukee Manufacturing Career Expo held at State Fair Park in May 2012. Earlier this year, the Fox Valley Career Expo was held in Appleton. As with other career expos, the Central Wisconsin Career Expo model includes a quick and easy registration process for job seekers. Individuals meet with Job Service staff who review their resumes and help them take additional steps to prepare, including practicing for job interviews.

Employers interested in registering for the Central Wisconsin can find details and register online at www.WisconsinCareerExpo.com.

Interested job seekers are urged to pre-register. To do so, they must complete a simple registration process:

  1. Visit www.JobCenterofWisconsin.com, and register or update your information;
  2. Use the Job Seeker Tools on the site to create or update a resume and complete a self-assessment survey (be sure to print copies for the final step); and
  3. Complete a work readiness session with an employment specialist at a local Job Center to review the resume and self-assessment survey, review steps in the job application process, and receive an admission ticket. Work readiness sessions are available during regular Job Center hours now through Monday, September 15.
