Secretary to Address Women & Poverty Conference, Note Progress, List Remaining Challenges

Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Roberta Gassman will address the 20th Annual Women & Poverty Conference on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at 11:55 a.m. in Green Bay. Secretary Gassman will report on the status of women, note progress in fighting poverty, and call all to action in overcoming the remaining challenges.

As a member of Governor Jim Doyle’s cabinet, Secretary Gassman leads the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and oversees 1,900 employees charged with strengthening Wisconsin’s workforce. With a budget of over $2 billion, DWD provides training and employment assistance to job seekers, works with employers to fill jobs, enforces worker’s rights, and administers Unemployment Insurance, Apprenticeship, and Worker’s Compensation.
