DWD to Co-sponsor Statewide Conference Linking Early Childhood with Workforce and Economic Development

Wisconsin First Lady Jessica Doyle and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Elizabeth Burmaster to Address Conference

MADISON – The Department of Workforce Development, in partnership with the state Departments of Public Instruction, Corrections, and Health and Family Services; Wisconsin Head Start State Collaboration Project; Wisconsin Head Start Association; Wisconsin Economic Development Association; and others, is hosting the annual “Strongest Links Conference: Converging for Kids.”

This annual conference is designed to link community agencies, business leaders, educators, policy makers, and consumers in an active commitment to improving the lives of young children and families in Wisconsin. Speakers at this year's conference include Wisconsin First Lady Jessica Doyle; State Superintendent of Public Instruction Elizabeth Burmaster; Robert Dugger, Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development’s Invest in Kids Working Group; and Larry Schweinhart, President of the High/Scope Educational Research Foundation.

Highlights of this year’s conference include:

• "The High/Scope Perry Preschool Study Through Age 40" – Lawrence J. Schweinhart, President of the High/Scope Educational Research Foundation.
• “American Kids, Workforce Quality, and Fiscal Sustainability: The Economic Case for National Early Childhood Investment" – Robert H. Dugger, Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development's Invest in Kids Working Group.
• "Economic Benefits of Quality 4K in Wisconsin” – Dennis K. Winters, Director of Research, NorthStar Economics, Inc.
• "Search Institute Developmental Asset Framework" – Rich Thwaits, Director of Federal Programs and Auxiliary Services, Merrill Public Schools.
• "Criminal Justice and Early Childhood" – James Moeser, Dane County Juvenile Court Administrator.
• Luncheon Presentation – Deborah Blanks, CEO Social Development Commission, Milwaukee.
• "Enhancing the Capacity for Cross-System Innovation" – Jennifer Noyes, Director of the Hudson Institute, Madison Office.
