Governor’s Conference Offers Strategies to Help Grow Wisconsin’s Economy

MADISON – The 11th Annual Governor’s Workforce Development Conference entitled, "Grow Wisconsin: An Economic Imperative," will be held May 19-21 at the Four Points Sheraton—Airport Hotel in Milwaukee. Conference topics and interactive sessions underscore the Governor’s "Grow Wisconsin" vision with applicable tools, strategies and best practices for businesses and employees to use. United States Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration Assistant Secretary Emily Stover DeRocco will discuss the High-Growth Job Training Initiative, a strategic effort to link public workforce investment system resources with job opportunities that exist in growing industries.

The initiative focuses on key industries that are projected to add many new jobs or experience significant transformation in the skills required of workers in those jobs. What makes the initiative effective are the partnerships uniting the workforce system, business communities, and education systems, referred to as the Power of E3: Employment, Economic Development and Education.

According to Governor’s Workforce Development Conference Planning Committee Chair Bryan Albrecht, "The purpose of the Governor’s conference is to provide a forum for education, training and business leaders to come together and inspire a common vision for economic development for Wisconsin."

The conference will focus on four practices:

  • Partnerships: Creating a Competitive Business Climate through Workforce Development
  • Invest in Wisconsin's Citizens: Our Best Economic Tool
  • Grow Wisconsin's Economy: Attracting and Strengthening Wisconsin's Businesses
  • Fostering a Productive Climate for Business and Workers: Government as a Responsive Partner

    • The goal of the conference is to challenge employers to develop strategic views of employment and training in Wisconsin’s changing economy. Over 400 public and private employers and individuals throughout the Midwest will gather to network, strategize, and problem solve the issues impacting economic and workforce development to further grow Wisconsin's economy.
